Personal School Philosophy : I believe that any and all students have the desire to be heard and the capability to succeed when placed in a motivating and nurturing climate. The goal is to reach the students through empowerment, commitment, acceptance, and accountability. By collaborating with educators, administrators, parents, and the community, we can ensure our responsibility of meeting the needs of our students.

After completing the SCCA, I realized that I may need a little help. I rated myself low because I didn't feel as competent when it comes to school counseling.

My highest area was the Planning and Assessment component.B-PA 2. Identifying gaps in achievement, attendance, discipline, opportunity and resources was my strong area. I feel that area was strong because of my background in education. I have been a teacher for 2 years and a paraprofessional for almost 5 years. Looking at student data and assessments can help bridge gaps between student challenges and successful outcomes. As an educator, this is our job on the daily. I feel this would come naturally to me as I move into a counselor role.

The area for most improvement was the demonstrate understanding of educational systems, legal issues, policies, research, and trends in education and Apply legal and ethical principles of the school counseling profession. I am a sensitive person by nature and would want to do more than legal law would allow. I would have to educate myself more and strengthen that part of me that wants to do more than what I am allowed to.

Grade Level: Kindergarten

Unit Title : What if Everybody Did That book by Ellen Javernick

Number of Lessons: 1

Lesson 1 Title : Responsibility in the Classroom

Materials: Flash/ Scenario Cards, Anchor Chart, Job Chart

Goal 1: identify the importance of making responsible and respectful decisions independently

Goal 2: identify and solve problems effectively

Goal 3: explain reasoning and higher thinking

Goal 4: know the purpose of rules

Unit Essential Questions: What is responsibility ? How can we be responsible? What is something new you can do to be responsible? What happens when everyone ignores the rules?

Lesson:

ask background knowledge questions such as what if there were no rules.

Read the story "What if Everybody Did That?"

Create different scenarios with students: what if someone did this and discuss how it would effect the classroom.

Lesson Closure:

Create a new book and title based on the book “What if Everybody Did That?”. Each student writes a page to contribute to the class book. Students draw and color a picture to illustrate their page. Students will then create a job board and choose which job responsibility they would like to have for the year.

Reflection of Goal:

The purpose of this lesson is to help students identity the purpose of making responsible decisions but asking the question "What if Everybody Did That?" If no one followed the rules, would are school be a safe place for us to come to everyday? Students would discuss scenarios that could arise if no one followed the rules. The goal is to teach student show to be ready, respectful and responsible in the school setting.
