Without education, we wouldn't have higher intellect or society's advancements in technology. However, this system of education hard-wires people on the idea that with more information comes more understanding. As proved by Gladwell and his book Blink, this is not always the case. The way we learn in school is programmed to set us up for manufacturing jobs. But, as society evolved, many more job opportunities have opened up to everyone. Many studies conducted show that this industrial-style education system will no longer be beneficial to the coming generations. This system focuses on prepping students for factories and assembly lines, rather than focusing on the actual learning and understanding of material. This happens when those in authority repeatedly give out more and more work, with shorter times to work on it, eventually leading to an overflow of homework.This brings an unnecessary amount of stress on students to just memorize the information, without learning the actual content, resulting in fake understanding of the material. This is because the stress from the innumerable amounts of homework forces students to resort to memorization, which is not the same as learning and understanding the school material. We come to confuse information with understanding." (264) This is proven true because the education system, modelled after industry, forces loads of work and homework on students, with little time.
