Scenario:

In math class, we are learning about converting decimals to percentages.

Students are given a word problem with a budget, and they’re buying a pair of shoes. Students must decide how much of their budget that the shoes should cost.

Students are put into groups of three. One student, Josie tackles the problem immediately and refers to her previous notes, but Jack sits there and does not independently open his book, write down the problem, and is doodling while the other two members work. Jack does not ask questions. Josie is able to answer questions easily with a grasp on the process but Jack has not made any attempt to solve the problem. Third person is engaged but Josie is the leader.

Feedback:

To Josie (4) - She is an independent worker, regularly tackles problems, self sufficient, and when she has problems, she raises her hand to ask for help.

To Jack (1) - Jack seems to not be confident in asking for help. He will wait until the answer is given before trying to work out the problem.

Chris is expected to bring a pencil to class every day as well as his song journal so that he can be ready to participate as soon as class begins. As it stands, Chris will be receiving a 1 for the preparation portion of his participation grade. Please discuss this issue with Chris so he can be prepared for class every day

4 - Feedback

Hello, your child has been listening very attentively in class. I can tell by the way that she contributes during class discussions. For example, when a classmate mentioned he solved the math problem by drawing a diagram. Then, Alexandria appreciated his work by raising her hand and saying, “I like how he solved it because it showed me that there is more than one way of understanding the problem.” This kind of participation shows that Alexandria listened and cares about what her classmates are saying in group discussions.

1 - Feedback

I enjoy having your child in my class. However, I am concerned about his understanding of the content. I have observed that when others are speaking, and I ask Noel to put in his own words what was said, he is often lost and needs me to repeat the class discussion. This has happened on a daily basis, so I wanted to bring this to your attention. This way moving forward Noel can improve his listening skills.

I just want to say that it is a pleasure teaching your child, Alexandria. Shes an exemplary student. Her participation score of a 4 in the area of Attendance and promptness reflects regular attendance, on time arrival and active participation in all the activities in class.

She is always the first to unpack and is always ready for the day. She is not afraid to ask important questions to gain a better understanding or to clear up any confusion she might have about a task.

I just want to say that it is a pleasure teaching your child Tyler. I would like to say she has a lot of potential and is actively developing as Kindergartener.

I wanted to reach out regarding Serenity . I have noticed that she has been arriving late to school on a daily basis. While I understand that mornings can be challenging, arriving on time is very important for Serenity's success. Being present at the start of the day helps her settle in, hear important directions, and feel prepared for learning.

I wanted to bring this to your attention so we can work together to help Serenity build consistency with punctuality. Even a few minutes can make a big difference in setting a positive tone for the day.
