- The 509th Composite Group was created to plan and execute the deployment of the first atomic bomb. Gen. Paul Tibbets headed up that group and flew a B-29 named The Enola Gay in August 1945.
- Their mission was to create a bombing plan that would completely knock out and crush Japan from the war.
- They would take a run at the city of Hiroshima with a nuke called, "Little Boy" and try to end the run of Japan and take victory in the Pacific
- After the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan didn't surrender so they planned another bombing on the city of Nagasaki.
- Tibbits conducted another plan with the B-29, Bockscar. Their nuke, "Fat Man"
- They nuked Nagasaki and ended up winning war in the Pacific.
