I think that having the students involved in the mediation of issues can help prepare them for working environments where they may face challenges with coworkers, and even for problem solving in their personal and family lives.

I would also suggest pairing this approach with Restorative Justice, an approach that encourages students meet with one another and discuss a variety of topics about themselves to resolve conflicts.
