In this chapter, she skips class with older girls at her school who pressured her to. Marji then continues to lie to her mother about the situation. They also talk about how the war would have finally ended but the Iranian government was against it which plunged them deeper into war. By smoking the cigarette which at first she thought was a act of rebellion, she then understood it was just her growing up and seeing what actually happening in the world. This relates to my central idea because Marji is finally realizing what the war is actually affecting in the big picture. She understands that she has to mature and develop now into a adult. Marji hears about Ramins father who is a neighbor and acquaintance of Marji and her family. A classmate of her talks about how Ramins father killed "millions" of people. She wants to take things into her own hands and teach Ramin wrong from right. "In the name of the dead million, well teach Ramin a lesson. I have a idea..." Marji says. Her and fellow classmates progress to prepare to attack Ramin but her mother catches them in the act. This relates to my central idea since her mother tries explaining to her that Ramins father did do the things she heard but that it wasn't his fault and the government is forcing him to kill communists and that Ramin didn't have a choice or say in any of it. She was not afraid to rebel. Marji knew that jewelry was forbidden at school. So she showed up to school with a bracelet on her wrist. Her principal tries taking it from her but Marji fights back by hitting the principal. This results in Marji getting expelled. A week later Marji's parents discuss with her that they think it would be for the best if she left Iran for a better education and life. This relates to my central idea because after Marji is told the news she is leaving Iran she realizes how much her family loves her. She now knows that she is maturing and developing that will continue when she is without her family.
