He is loyal to his country and he fought in the military and he is not moody or speculative. He is very fit and has had training in the past. Lewis was appointed by President Jefferson to be his personal secretary, meaning he is trusted by the president and knows about politics. 
       Lewis is also good at mapping and scientific inquiry. This is very important in order to make the maps of the land. Without these maps, the purpose of the mission would be lost. Lewis also learned the practices of navigation from Jefferson and learned from astronomers. This shows he is determined to be the captain of this mission.

They are very good woodsmen and hunters that are very active. They would be a great addition in order to help feed the rest of the men by hunting. Hunting is a very important part of this journey because there is not much room for food to take with them.
       The Reuben brothers would also be helpful because they are able to build. This is helpful in case the men need shelter in the winter or a desk to write on in order to record their findings. It can get very cold in the winter and it is important for them to stay warm in a shelter. It is also important for the men to record their findings.

This is because he is a very talented trapper and interpreter, which could help them to communicate with the Native Americans. He had lived intermittently with the Yankton Sioux Indians for about 20 years, making him very helpful. He can communicate with other tribes to get us resources and healthy relationships.
       Pierre Dorion is also helpful to document data. He may know more about other tribes that could help them to gather information to know how they live and what to do in order to have a peaceful relationship. Being friends with these tribes is very important.
