His mum was poor and his dad was rich so he had an in between lifestyle. His father was a lawyer and his mum worked in the farm so they did have money, and were able to buy good food. For example, he wasn't able to go to school as his parents weren't married. Any other child during the time probably would have given up on receiving an education but Leonardo decided to teach himself how to read and write. By doing this, he was welcomed to the best art school in his city state! Although he was his own teacher, he made many inventions and came up with fascinating ideas. If he ditched his education, we wouldn't have many devices such as helicopters, guns and canons. Therefore, Leonardo Da Vinci was named "The Renaissance Man" because he brought about changed and creations that no one else during his time period would risk bringing. He pursued his need for knowledge. He cut up dead animals and people to learn about the human anatomy and how things work. He wanted to know how birds fly so he cut a dead bird up and looked at it’s muscles to work it out.
