Chapter 1: The Stolen Letters

In chapter 1 we met Violet, Mother, Father, Chloe, and Stephen. Violet was looking for a stamp in mothers desk and found letters that her mother hid from her they were from Chloe her sister so Violet took them up stairs where her father was and he saw Violet with them and he started chasing her. Violet got away and ran to the river bank to read the ones she had goten witch was not all of them. She read the notes and really wished she had got them sooner. Violet was very mad at her parents and was not lying them get away with the rest of them.

Chapter 2: The Dying Mrs. Renwick

In chapter 2 Violet was running away from home to go to New York City to find her Chloe she had $3.92 to go on her whole trip. Violet was going on a train to get to New York City on her way she met a anti-suffragist who was very insersested in Violet. Mrs. Renwick was "dying" and she had seen 12 doctors to try to find out what wrong Mrs. Renwick kept asking Violet questions and was annoying Violet but she did get Violet 2 Tootsie rolls. Mrs. Renwick was very nosey and she was inimprest with Violet and her being "ladylike". Some questions Violet got asked are How many kids do you want to have, and she told Mrs. Renwick 7 kids.

Chapter 3: Meeting Myrtle

The theme of Chapter 3 is that you can find hope when you least expect it in know that because Violet is ready to give up but she finds a little girl named Myrtle who helps her. This chapter starts when Violet gets off the train and talks to a police officer the police officer says why are you here alone and wants her to stay with him, but Violet tricks him and leaves. Violet gets out of the train station and then gets thrown into a crowd of people she is with that crowd of people for what she thought as hours. Once she breaks away from the crowd she slips on horse poop and a girl named Myrtle helps her up and she is confused because Myrtle is black but She still helps Violet and then Violet buys a hotdog for both of them Myrtle shows Violet a safe place to eat and is really nice.

Chapter 4: Henry Street

In chapter 4 they find the Henry Street Settlement house and they go in without knocking or anything. They look around and find a parlor they go inside the parlor and meet someone named Mr. Martin he has only 2 fingers on one of his hands and a huge scar on his face. They talk to him and he says that Chloe moved to Washington D.C.

Chapter 5: Hobie and the Brackman

In Chapter 5 Myrtle & Violet met a homeless boy named Hobie. Hobie is very familiar with the train station so he taught them how to jump on the train without them noticing they got on the train and rode to philadelphia then got off. then they went to a forest and Hobie went in by hisself and he got them stew they ate it then went to bed then they got on a train and they met a brackman and he maid them pay or he would throw them out the open door.

Chapter 6: It all comes down to Tennessee

Chapter 6 is about Violet and Myrtle going to Washington D.C and meeting Alice Paul. It starts with Myrtle saying "we have to go clean ourselves because if any one sees us they will scream for the cops" so Myrtle led them into an alley called Louse Home Alley and they cleaned up. Then they talked to someone named Professor Mary Church Terrell and she said that Chloe might be with the suffergist by the White House so Violet and Myrtle went to the white house they meet Miss Paul or Alice Paul and she told them to have tea with her. So they went in and Miss Paul told them that Chloe was in Tennessee and she had told them that that in Tennessee was where the final vote was going to be. Violet asked for more and Miss Paul told them that Chloe was pickiting in frount of the White House and she had to go to jail, then a 2nd girl came in and said that she had been to jail 6 times.

Chapter 7: Heading to Nashville

In Chapter 7 Violet and Myrtle wake up and they see Mr. Martin the person who was annoying them at the Henry Street Settlement house then Mr. Martin says that he is going to act lick Violet and Myrtles parents. After they eat breakfast Mr. Martin takes them to the telegraph to send a message to their parents then they go to the National Women's Party headquarters. At the headquarters Violet and Myrtle went to get fashionable dresses made then they went to the train station to get their special train to Tennessee. When they were going to get on the conducter said "no that does not work" it because Myrtle was black and she was not aloud to go in that train so she had to get on the "colored" train seperate from everyone else.

Chapter 8: In Jim Crow Car

In chapter 8 Myrtle has to go to the car for colored people. So Violet went through all the cars and had lots of trouble with the doors so she had to get lots of people to help her. In the colored car she found a seat next to a very old lady. She talked to the lady and then she sayed "I'm going to Nashville to make the Susan B. Anthony amendment to be signed" the lady thought she was crazy and that colored people would not be included in the amendment she said "You must be the most stubborn girl on the planet" but Myrtle was determined to vote.

Chapter 9: Mr Martens Escape

In chapter 9 of "The Hope Chest," Violet and the other suffragists are questioned by men who are trying to find Mr. Martin. The bookkeeper who is being used to prove that women are intelligent. The men accuse the women of being unintelligent and being rude to them and not giving them the answers they want. The chapter also explores the metaphor of the men's questions as a way to reveal their prejudice and the suffragists' resilience.

Chapter 10: Red and Yellow Roses

Chapter 10 starts with Mrs. Dexter cooking breakfast and then Violet asks to give some to Myrtle and Mrs. Dexter said "yes" so she has to go to a different train to get to Myrtle. She gives it to Myrtle and then is heading back when she sees a pregnant lady fall on the train tracks so Violet helps her up then helps her sit down on a bench Violet nearly misses her train. At the Next stop she sees Mr. Marten get off and Myrle fallow him but the conductor does not let Violet off so she gets off at the next stop and meets someone giving out red roses to people Violet gets one although she does not want one the lady said that she would help Violet find Chloe so the lady takes her to a hotel and then the fount desk lady tells her that suffragist were on floor #3 and then Violet asked if Miss Mayhew was here and she said "no Miss Meyhew sorry" now Violet was all alone no Mr. Marten, no Myrtle, and no Chloe.

Charter 11: Finding Chloe

In Chapter 11 of Hope Chest book Violet gets her room key and room which is 907 so Violet goes to her room and is starving. So she goes to a place called The Grill Room which was only for men, then she went to the Dinning Room which was only for people who were properly dressed and very nice she could not go there ether so she asked the front desk and they told her there was food on the 2nd floor. She went up there and then she went to the balcony and she herd someone say "Mayhew" so she ran down stairs. Then she saw CHLOE and she was overjoyed she went and hugged Chloe and Chloe was so exited, tired, and confused. Then Chloe asked her how she got there and then showed her the "Hope Chest" car that she had bout with her Hope Chest money then they went to her room and talked about Mr. Marten and Myrtle and then Chloe sayed they would try to find them tomarrow

Chapter 12: Violet Spies

In chapter 12 Violet wakes up after a tirable night of sleep and Mrs. Lewis is walking around eating grape nuts and she insisted that Violet has some then she started going to the Tran station. When she is going she sees two Hobos but then she realizes they are Myrtle and Mr. Martin they ask her if she has found her sister yet and then she Leeds them to the Hermitage hotel. Chloe sees Violet leading Mr. Martin, and Chloe so she comes to see what is up. Close and Mr. Martin have a little fight and then the desk clerk says "no colored people in my hotel" then they have to leave the hotel. Then Viole showes Mr Martin the Hope Chest and then Violet notices that Chloe is a lot more calm then Mr. Martin says "we should go somewhere and have a picnic". then they start looking for a hotel for all people.

Chapter 13: Dead Horse Ally

In chapter 13 it starts with Myrtle and Mr. Martin looking for a place to eat they go through 4 restaurants and then finally find somewhere. After that they have to go to find a hotel after a while they had to go to a place called Dead Horse Ally. Meanwhile Violet old Chloe that she wanted to spy. Violet got some info about the antis then was going to tell Chloe at the drug store.

Chapter 14: Max bloomstein's pharmacy

In chapter 14 Myrtle is thinking about after the vote happens. She is wanting Mr. Martin to stay in the place out of sight so he does not get captured so Myrtle is trying to persuade him to marry Chloe. The reason Mr. Martin was being chased is because he spoke up against war. Meanwhile Chloe and Violet are at the drug store and Violet is telling Chloe all that she has heard about the antis. Then Mr. Martin comes in to the drug store and Chloe and Mr. Martin start talking so Violet goes outside to see Myrtle and they talk. Then Mt. Martin leaves and Violet and Chloe get back to talking.

Chapter 15: The Ferocious Mrs. Cat

In chapter 15 it starts with Violet in the dining room with the antis. She is listening then someone drops their fork then Violet goes to pick it up then she hears someone say that they need to capture a Jew so that the suffragists go crazy and the antis will get ahead. Violet had heard enough so she left the dining room she had to tell Chloe imminently. Violet goes to the Tulane hotel then the desk clerk says that Chloe is in the Hermitage hotel dancing. So Violet runs back to the Hermitage then goes to the top floor. She looks around for Chloe But it takes a while to find her. Then she goes over to Chloe and finds her dancing with a boy named Harry T. Burn. Then Mr. Martin walks in so Violet starts dancing with Mr. Burn and then sees that Chloe and Mr. are talking. Meanwhile Myrtle fallowed Mr. Martin to the Hermitage and is wanting to go in except she is colored so she sneaks in with a group of people. She starts trying to find Violet. Then Mr. Martin, Violet, and Chloe then Violet meats a woman named Mrs. Catt and she asks Violet why she is where a yellow and Violet says just because and Mrs. Catt is anointed then Violet yells Myrtles name because she sees Myrtle and they are asked to leave.

Chapter 16: Politics and Gunplay

In chapter 16 they start at a beautiful field where Myrtle and Violet are learning to drive the hope chest. Then Violet and Myrtle talked as they walked by the downstream. Then Violet and Chloe got in the hope chest and drove to the capital. As they walked up the stairs Violet asked Chloe all the questions she had about the vote and the legislators. Meanwhile Myrtle and Mr. Martin were eating. Mr. Martin had a knife and tuna in his hand and Myrtle was eating tuna. Then the door opened and two men came in the room and they both had a gun pointed at Mr. Martin. They said his name was Arpadfi and that he was an emergent from Hungary. Then they explained his whole life as he was in so much pain. They left with Mr. Martin then they and then myrtle went to grab the knife Mr. Martin dropt. Then Myrtle went to the door and Mrs. Ready said " now that I got that Mr Martin away i can bring you to a colored girl and she can take you to an Institute.

Chapter 17: The Hope Chest

In chapter 17 it starts with Chloe and Violet running down the stairs they had just started the Hope Chest. Then they sell Myrtle running and they asked her what was wrong and she said that and she said that Mr Martin had been caught by the police. So close and myrtle rain and then Chloe said don't leave here i'll be right back as soon as I find Mr Martin. But Violet wonders if Mr. Martin could be on the highway running away in half the Palmer agent after him. So violet decided that she would have to drive the hope she has to see if she could find Mr. Martin she was a terrible driver but she had to do it the only time she done it was in the field with Chloe right by your side telling her what to do. She got in the Hope Chest and drove in the middle of the road she kept driving then she saw
