Biological organization, by definition is the levels of biological structures/life that are defined within a certain order or category. There are said to be 12 levels of organization. Starting from smallest to largest, the levels of organization are organelle, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, species, populations, communities, ecosystems, and biosphere.

"With an area of 9,200,000 square kilometres, it is the largest hot desert in the world and the third largest desert overall" according to Wikipedia. The Sahara desert fills nearly all of norther Africa. There are over 760 species, all including plants and animals. Some examples of the plant species living there are the Olive, Cypress, and Mastic trees. How can we apply the concept of biological organization to this location? What is the biological organization of this location? Let's have a look.

The first and lowest classification in the levels we will be discussing are species. An example of a species within the Sahara desert is the Sand Viper. It's diet contains mostly of birds, rodents, and lizards that are also found within the Sahara. This happens mostly during the night time where they can be found hiding under rocks, waiting for there prey.

The second term on our list is population. A population is "A group of the same species living and interbreeding in a given area" says Nature.com. As an example, lets use the most common plant in the world, trees. To date, there are 1.8 billion trees that cover the Sahara area. These trees mostly tend to grow within the western area of the location. Population is just simply the amount of an organism within a certain area.

A community is third on the lost of biological organization. It consists of various species (living and non-living) that commonly interact with each other within a certain region. In the region of the Sahara desert, the case is that Camels eat the grasses and grains which are heat resistant. The grasses grow from the dead leafs of plants which provide water trinkets for the plant. After the Camels eat the grasses, they die and provide lions with food. When the lions die they are eaten by birds and decomposed and the plants use them as nutrients along with the water provided by fallen leafs.

According to National Geographic, "A biome is a large community of vegetation and wildlife adapted to a specific climate". In this case, the Sahara desert is located in the 'Desert' biome, one of the five mainly large biomes in the world. Let's move onto the last one.
