         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the novel a man named Jack O'Connell goes to fight in the WWII after making the 1963 Olympics. Instead of just staying home and running he does what is right and puts his life on the line for the greater good. After becoming a B-22 bomber pilot he is deployed over Japan were his plane crashes. He survives the landing but is soon taken as a prisoner of war or POW by the Japanese and placed in a POW camp. In the camp he undergoes torture by the japanese soldiers and must work every single day in the worst of conditions. Hundreds of POW's die during his time at the camp but he seems to be fights the suppression. Adventually after many occasions of of torture and abuse Louie finds a way to make it to the end o the war.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>How much adversity can one take?</strong><br>When reading this book I thought a lot about this question. The book came to be a series of ups and downs. One moment the POW's were rejoicing and talking of the past. Jack is even taken into one of the main cities for a nice lunch. Although immediately after these highs points a low is soon to follow. When he is taken to the city he is then tortured for days after for not complying with the rules. Not one does jacks will break. He stays strong.Every turn you think that this is it and he is gonna die.<br><br><strong>In what ways will Jack be changed by the end of the novel?</strong><br>By the end of the novel is is clear to see that Jack has become changed. He has really grown up. His experience was horrible but it made him into a strong willed man. As if nothing can break h<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
