My first time being on Culver's campus was for my tour with Jenna Springer. In my mind, I was still deciding on a high school to go to, but my parents already signed me up for Culver, I had no idea. They had expectations for me to absolutely love it and want to go here so bad. I liked it a lot but I had another school I wanted to go to. When they told me I was already going to Culver, I felt I had to make myself excited to come. But then, as the summer went on, I grew more and more excited on my own. Now, I'm happy my parents had those expectations for me.

But my English ability was not enough to support me to get those grades which can put me into a good high school, so I have to prepare for this test for a long period of time. My growth in the grade was not very obvious at first which made me wanted to quit, and what made me through this test is my parents' expectations. No matter what score I get they always believe that their son is the one who can eventually get the passing score, which made me endured the "suffering" and eventually passed after a preparation of almost a year.

Expectations can affect groupmates' behaviors. Based on research, I believe a good leader is always with high expectations, which will lead to positive consequences of the work. In this loop, a good leader understands the power of expectations and continuously expects the high performance of his group. The group mates in turn will perform better compared with under the leadership of low expectations. The leader and the groupmates will both benefit from the high expectation so this is important for the leader to understand and the high expectation will provide positive influence on members' behaviors.

The leaders will need to understand the importance of expectations because having expectations towards other people will change their behavior. The leaders will be in charge of the group and give directions and organize things. After the member receives their jobs, the leader would normally have an expectation for each member. When the members notice the leader's expectation, they might want to change their behavior in order to achieve the expectation. For example, last summer I attended an academic competition in a group with 2 other people. I was elected to be the leader and I set an expectation to get qualified to the next round. This was almost impossible because my groupmates actually aren't doing well in academics. However, due to my expectation, they decided to work hard, read many books and essays, wrote study guides to achieve the goal. In the end, the expectation was achieved and we did get qualified for the next round. Expectations are very important to leaders, as it's a way to improve the efficiency of the members and an incentive to better final results.

It can motivate, demoralize, or even inspire a group of people in many ways. However, my uncle believed in me and expected me to be the class president. His expectation motivated me and drove me to be confident and work harder on my presentation skills. Even though I did not get the class president in the end, this experience helped me gain confidence and many friends, which totally changed my personality. His expectations of me helped me a lot.

To be a good leader, we have to make sure to not give a super high expectation for the team because they might have a lot of pressure and perform even worse. But a leader should also give encouragements and have faith in them. So, it is important to find the balance and know what level of expectation we should have in others based on their condition. For example, some people might work harder when the expectation is low, but others might feel discouraged.
