Justice Ginsburg as well as Justice Kennedy, has stated that this Amendment goes against the Fourteenth Amendment of Equal Protection. Virginia dates back to her first years as the Supreme Court. In 1996, the Supreme Court of the United States fought against the traditional male-only admission policy of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in a 7-1 decision. This case was brought forward due to the violation of the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection clause. The VMI proposed a solution to satisfy the equal protection rights requirements: they suggested a parallel institute to be built for women only. However the VMI refused to provide women with the same type of rigorous military training, facilities, courses, faculty, financial opportunities, and alumni reputation and connections that VMI affords male cadets. The Court ruled that segregated law schools in Texas were unconstitutional. Following the ruling, VMI contemplated going private to exempt itself from the 14th Amendment, and thus this ruling. Up until 1979, jury duty was considered optional for women in the US. Several states argued that women should be exempt from participating due to family and household obligations. Ginsburg fought to require women to serve on juries on the basis that their civic duty should be valued the same as men’s. 
There is a quote from Ruth Ginsburg that show how much this law is so important for women.
"The time when men and women share the responsibility of nurturing the next generation, we will be able to say that women have achieved true equality."
