One of Morrison's novels, Song of Solomon does not support the American Dream because it talks about enslaved Africans who escape slavery by flying back to Africa to “ creates a black community strangely unto itself yet never out of touch with the white world. . . . With an ear as sharp as glass she has listened to the music of black talk and uses it as a palette knife to create black lives and to provide some of the best fictional dialogue around today.” —The Nation. Creating that community isolated them from the hatred of the white people and kept them in a healthy environment.

The sobbing story of Pecola Breedlove, an Eleven-year-old African American girl from an abusive home that equates beauty and social acceptance with whiteness; she, therefore, longs to have “the bluest eye” which is named after Pecola embracing the social whiteness. Ecola asked him for blue eyes and Soaphed says “Here was an ugly little girl asking for beauty…A little black girl who wanted to rise up out of the pit of her blackness and see the world with blue eyes. His outrage grew and felt like power. For the first time, he honestly wished he could work miracles.”- Britannica. Ecola was angry because of that and plans to trick Pecola.

A novel that inspects the horrendous tradition of slavery as it accounts the existence of a Black lady named Sethe, from her pre-Civil War days as a slave in Kentucky. “Not at Sweet Home, my niggers is men every one of em. Bought em thataway, raised em thatway. Men every one.”- GALE IN CONTEXT
Paul D reviews what Mr. Garner generally said regarding his slaves. Other slaveowners have "young men" who they infantilize and doubt, yet Garner approaches his slaves with deference. The Sweet Home slaves are still slaves, lacking through and through freedom and self-assurance and won't ever genuinely be men or ladies.
