Hawking suffered from a severe nerve degeneration disease known as ALS that ultimately lead to his inability to use his muscles. Regardless of the adversity that he faced, Hawking never lost sight of his purpose and his passion. This video is from a movie called The Theory of Everything, which focuses on Stephen's life, especially his successes and his struggles. During a lecture, Hawking sees a student drop a pen, and this ignites memories of the complications his disease has caused him. My favorite part of the movie is the speech he gives, which includes the lines, "However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. While there is life, there is hope." While there are some evil people in the world, the majority is filled with loving, compassionate individuals dedicated to bettering the lives of others.
