COMPUTER PROGRAMMING 1

One semester, 1/2 credit Open to students in grades 9-12

This introductory, semester-long course in computer programming provides students with a college-preparatory approach to

understanding computer logic. Students will apply coding principles to perform designated tasks and solve problems. The

course intends to provide an introduction to the fundamental concepts of composing and running a program using a

programming language such as Visual C++. Although there are no prerequisites for this course, students should be advised

that the class involves abstract reasoning and those who struggle in math classes may find parts of this course difficult to

follow.

COMPUTER GAME DESIGN

One semester class, 1/2 credit Open to students in grades 9-12

This introductory class in computer logic provides students with an entry point to understanding simple computer software.

Students will engage in highly-structured computer programming exercises designed to test a student’s ability to think logically

and to follow a deliberate plan. Students who are interested in learning how to code are encouraged to consider either Web

Design and Development or Beginning Computer Programming instead of Computer Game Design.

STEAM PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES

One semester, 1/2 credit Open to students in grades 9-12

Prerequisite: None

A semester-long course open to all students in any grade level. Transportation issues in the form of projects and activities will

be covered. Projects such as: paper airplanes, wind cars, stomp rockets, quadricycles, self paddling boats, maglev, train wheel

science in addition to several other projects will be covered. Students will learn about topics through Project Based Learning

THE TECHNOLOGY OF BIOLOGY

One semester, 1/2 credit Open to students in grades 9 -12

This course explores the intersection of biology and technology, guiding students through hands-on projects, collaborative

problem-solving, and ethical discussions. From tackling real-world biological challenges to exploring the impact of technology

on bioethics, using the steps of the engineering design process. They will be encouraged to think critically, collaborate with

(PBL). The engineering design cycle will be utilized to explore the topic of transportation design.

INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN (IED)

Semesters 2, 1 credit Open to students in grade 9-12

IED is the second course in a sequence of four courses which follows the national Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum.

Students use a problem-solving model to improve existing products and invent new ones. They learn how to apply this model to

solve problems in and out of the classroom. Using sophisticated three-dimensional modeling software, students communicate

the details of the products. Emphasis is placed on analyzing potential solutions and communicating ideas to others.

You must use the polaris/curriculum guide (posted on this padlet/ or google classroom) to look up the courses and read the description than hand write your choices on the last page of your GREEN packet - paying attention to S=semester Y= year - Semester you write in one block - Year you write in both ;)

I am glad you asked.. :) Financial Literacy will be automatically added to your schedule opposite of World History or Honors Government - This is why it is not listed on your optioning sheet as an elective.

School links is not ready for the class of 2028 to enter courses yet. They expect it to be up and running on Monday, March 4th try again next week :)

You do not turn in the PE Waiver until AFTER you have completed the requirement - so after you complete the 2 seasons of a sport or 2 years of marching band/rotc then you complete the form - On school links just hit continue when PE pops up - and add your other electives at the end ;)

Yes! Intro to Business Foundations is an elective class offered to 9th graders it is listed as a year long class but that is incorrect it is only a semester (so write it only once on our grid).

Students will learn to interview, write journalistically, edit, and assist with layouts of Odin’s Word Newspaper and the Senior

Edition magazine. The course will require working outside of the classroom in order to meet deadlines, and may require

coverage of after school events.
