He noted that students did appear more engaged, especially in classes where the technology was implemented in a significant way (more than just notetaking). The district used a whitelisting system, which took a lot of work on the behalf of the district, but students were still able to access restricted sites (with some ease). Therefore, the possibility of misuse in our school would still be an issue.

During the school day, the wifi isn't always working the greatest.  I can't imagine how "bombarded" the wifi network will be if every student was on the wifi at the same time. There are already lots of issues with connectivity. How are we, as a district, going to handle replacements and repairs of the laptops? I'm sure it will be a daily occurrence that laptops will need to be fixed/replaced for students.  There always seems to be 1-2 laptops that have issues in the carts that we share between 2-3 teachers. 
Also, with the subject I teach, I would not want my desktop computer replaced with a laptop. I do a lot of work with equations, graphs, etc. A desktop is much easier to create documents and materials of this nature. My desktop is fairly new and has a large screen. It's easier for me to work with the keyboard and larger screen size than a mouse pad on a laptop. Why get rid of desktops that are fairly new? Plus, they are a bit cheaper than laptops also!
