 I can vividly recall the stinging words of the late Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, in one of his visits here during the time of President Marcos, when he said: “What your people need is not more freedom, but more discipline.”

Those words coming from a very strong, albeit tiny city state might have influenced FM, among others, to declare martial law and to adopt the slogan “Sa ikauunlad ng bayan, disiplina ang kailangan.” Today, we see a lot of Filipinos demanding so much from government, but not willing to cooperate with authorities in the war to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Filipinos are very difficult to manage and lead, they are hardheaded, stubborn, disobedient, uncooperative, and very talkative. If you listen to them it’s as if they are the brightest and smartest people. And yet they don’t even have rice to eat.

1. It is the over democratize lifestyle.
Everything too much is bad. As people learn to fight for freedom, some have forgotten that their rights end when the rights of others begin. For example, vandalism it is only good if you do that in your own property but if it is the property of the public it is now wrong.

2.  Lack of discipline at home
They say that parents are the first teacher of their child. Home is the place where good morals and discipline should be taught to children. But many of this parents (not all) lack control on their kids. Plus the Child Abuse Policy should be amended to balance such rights. It is simply a case to case basis.

3. No Role Models
I want to point out here the leaders as well as the politicians (TRAPO) hehehe. They should be models of discipline for others to follow. If we have good leaders non of those so called PASAWAY will justify their actions as rule breakers and crime.

4. No Strict Implementation
No need to compromise the law. For the law excuses no one. It should be implemented properly and say NO to VIP's or people in power for the law is balance and fair. It needs to have a TEETH! to make the society to follow, then nothing will happen if the citizens do not see any danger of not following the law, they will not take note of it.

5. Impatience to Self-gratification
Filipinos want to see results right away. They are so FUN of SHORTCUTS.  The so-called singit thing in falling in line. Such act is so disrespectful to others who follow rules and waited for their turns. Somewhat i remember a time in the DICT event where there is this young lady from Luzon who happens to be one of the awardees fall in line yet there were so many individuals who are hungry for food cut the line. And the lady began shouting PUMILA PO TAYO NG MABUTI. Unfortunately, her shouting was just snob by many. Funny yet a sad experience though.

In the end, as teachers we have a great responsibility in our shoulders to correct the young ones and the future generations.
