After reading the "What to Expect in this Course" document and the foundational readings and exercises in this module, answer the following prompts in this Padlet:
How do you predict this course might be valuable to you?
What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

This course will probably be valuable in two ways: first, as a student, it will allow me to see what seems to work and what doesn't seem to work in terms of getting students to interact with each other in a remote setting (I liked that whole "find a meme" directive in the intros slide; it's something I could easily use with my high school juniors). The second way this course will be helpful is that it will expose me to platforms (like Padlet) that I haven't used yet and haven't set aside time to learn. This is sort of a good way to dip my toe in, so-to-speak, in a low-stakes way with the goal of incorporating more of these sorts of platforms into my own lessons and activities.

This course will be valuable to me in that my school is still doing remote learning for the summer session (it is a full year program). I have been an online student before for my MAT, but before COVID never formally trained in online teaching. I want to analyze and learn specific practices that I may have overlooked during the past year. I work with such a small team (5 academic instructors) that I know we have missed some things.

My main goal is to support my pedagogical practices the best I can. Learning about new programs like Padlet and being able to collaborate with teachers we don’t normally have the ability to work with (how often do we have the ability to do PD with those outside our own districts?) can hopefully lead to some wonderful insights to improve my classroom further.

(Ben Wiley: not sure how to make this post not say "Anonymous" at the top)

I feel this course on remote learning practices will be valuable to me as I am beginning my first few years as a Social Studies teacher. This past year was very difficult and many teachers I knew felt as if they were learning everything new from scratch. I am looking forward to the course as a way to learn from other teachers, share ideas and support each other so that we don't have to reinvent the wheel.

One of my goals for this course is to learn different and better ideas for teaching in 2021. So much has changed since I was a student and continues to change. I am hoping this course can keep me up to date on best practices. Another goal I have for this course to begin to network with other teachers in different schools so that the learning and support can go beyond just the next 5 weeks.

This course will be valuable to me as I work on my ISTE educator certification this summer. Teaching in nontraditional settings in one of the criteria for certification. This class will also help me to become a better online educator. I do not think that distance learning is going away. There may have been problems, with it, but there parents and leaders saw some benefits, too.

Seeing students on a weekly basis, rather than daily makes getting to know them harder. I also hope to improve my planning to allow for more student driven instruction that than teacher driven. Finally, I hope to be better prepared for distance learning should my school be forced to use that again.

After reading the words "high quality virtual lessons" I knew that this course would be very valuable for me. We ended the 2019/20 school year remotely with so much unfinished learning. A year later, I feel that I still lack the computer skill, knowledge, and confidence needed to get back the excitement and love for teaching that I shared with my students in my actual classroom. I am hoping this course will help me with that. Just from reading posts thus far from other teachers, I realize that we are all in this together and that my feelings and experiences are felt by others.

My goal is to get exposed to new platforms, tools, and skills that will help me be more prepared and successful teaching virtually. I also plan to network with other teachers to hear what works for them both virtually and in the classroom. I am hoping that this will give me the confidence and excitement needed to be an adept virtual learner and teacher. This will enable both my students and myself to be more successful with distance learning.

I am hoping that it will help me better my ELOs and treks that learners will take in the coming years. I am looking forward to collaborating with other educators and gaining tools for differentiation.

My goal is to hone my skills in reaching learners remotely. I already have a decent skill set and I just want to add to what I already know. For me, virtual learning will be on an individual need only. Virtual/remote learning is not a "go-to" option for me. However, I can uses when learners need to be off campus for prolonged periods of time.

Because I have not engaged with remote learning in the same way as (some of) my peers, this course is particularly valuable to me. By participating in this course, I can learn directly from the successes and failures of educators with real world remote teaching experience - an earned wisdom that I hope to leverage as I experiment with blending vetted techniques and new technologies. I expect that this course will also expose me to current research and best practices in distance learning, since that was absolutely not a focus of my teacher preparation program, nor my classroom experience over the course of my career thus far. I hope this course motivates me to step outside my comfort zone, especially with respect to using new learning platforms. I know I can’t make up for the time I was not in the classroom during the pandemic, but I hope to catch up as much as possible through this course.

My biggest goal for this course is learning how to deploy strategies I have used in the past (strictly in face-to-face environments), such as backwards design and universal design for learning, in a digital environment. Although I may seek the same outcome as far as what I want my students to know and be able to do, I need to establish new ways to assess what they’ve learned, and new ways to plan lessons to be delivered remotely. When I can draft unit and lesson plans that use vetted strategies/best practices in a digital context, I’ll feel as though I’ve accomplished my primary goal for this course.

I have learned that we have many shared experiences from this last year of learning. Connecting with colleagues in this way is invaluable.
My goals in this course are to learn and practice specific ways to make online education effective, fun, and engaging for students. Not only will it help me to improve educating students in person, yet, it will help in a situation where we are required to return to remote instruction in the future. My intention is to learn new ways to improve my craft and engage students. Already I am learning new ways to connect with students via this new tool (Padlet). During remote learning, encouraging students to engage with the instructor, along with other students, can be challenging. I look forward to learning new strategies to engage and challenge all types of learners as well as new ways to organize content in a way that makes virtual learning more effective. We were still in the building, but because I'm a French teacher, for a variety of reasons, we could not meet in person.

I predict that this course will be valuable for me to connect with educators all over that state who! I am excited to learn new learning platforms that others have used, as well as new parent-friendly learning tools. Being a kindergarten teacher, my students cannot independently access their assignments, and I want to be sure that all of my families can do so easily. A goal of mine is to learn new strategies for student engagement and as well as how to engage and encourage a student who is unwilling to participate (too shy or uncomfortable with the computer).

Value I expect from this course is a better understanding of how others (the group) experienced the emergency online teaching we all went through last year. What were some common problems, some strategies, and insights that I might be able to share with participants in the workshops and courses I teach. I have my perspective, but since we are all different; the more stories I hear, the better informed I will be. For myself, I hope to learn some tools for a stronger presence online with less work. I need to set a schedule and stick to it so I don't feel guilty if I'm not online checking in every moment.

Carrie Cormier I expect the value in this course to be sharing experiences with other educators surrounding online learning and obtaining knowledge about best practices and new tools for teaching in a virtual format.

New tools and strategies that will help me continue to hone my craft are welcomed and valuable. I look forward to learning ideas that i can take directly into my classroom - be it in person or virtual.
