In order to get more young people to vote, there are certain steps that we should be liable to take: We can make classroom registration essential for older high school students, as well as college students. The biggest obstacle in voting for young adults is registering beforehand, as many forget this is a step that needs to be taken. It's also essential to encourage students to vote. Many households, as well as the government itself isn't pushing these young people to make a political difference.

While early voting across every age group increased compared with the 2014 midterms, the surge is most pronounced among voters ages 18 to 29. More than 3.3 million voters from that group cast their votes early. That’s a 188 percent increase from 2014, according to data from TargetSmart, a political-data-analysis firm.

She says in the article that she is scared to make the wrong choice and that she wasn't the most informed when it came to the elections. If schools work to make sure that the upcoming voters are informed we could potentially have more turnout.

(1) Civics classes aren’t often taught in school, at least, not taught to the extent that they need to be. “High school civics classes are not adequately preparing youth to understand the basic skills they need for the voting process. They learn how many justices are on the Supreme Court, for example, but not that they can still vote if they aren’t familiar with candidates on the ballot for the local water district.” (https://today.duke.edu/2018/10/why-so-many-young-people-don%E2%80%99t-vote)

(2) Overwhelmingly, young people simply don’t feel like their vote matters. As shown in the 2016 election, even if a candidate wins popular vote in America, the electoral college can choose whoever they personally wish to be president. If this practice continues, I personally think that it would be hard to convince people their vote matters.

(3) Registering to vote is also a fairly confusing process. If you mistake a letter in your name, or if a government worker mistakes it, it takes weeks to months to years for it to get fixed so that it perfectly matches the name on one’s ID. There’s also studies that show that problems of these sort happen more often in youth of color than in white youth. https://civicyouth.org/why-youth-dont-vote-differences-by-race-and-education/

(1) Promote civics classes that give a more adept teaching of politics and why you should vote even if you can’t write a 1000 page essay about the candidates. These classes should also teach students how to do research about the candidates quickly and accurately.

(2) There’s nothing to really do about the electoral college at this moment because in this article: https://www.npr.org/2019/03/22/705627996/abolishing-the-electoral-college-would-be-more-complicated-than-it-may-seem, it talks about how abolishing the electoral college would take years, there’s really no way it could be done by 2020… but it can always be thought about for the future.

(3) We could open more voting areas in minority-driven communities because voting areas are often based in "safe" areas (often churches). We could also try to reform the registration for voting, to make it simpler for people to understand and change if need be.
