         <title>Big Ideas from Neuro Teach</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"Why do individuals become and remain school teachers?  They make this commitment because they believe in the possibility that they can transform the lives of students, fellow faculty, or their school community."<br>As a teacher, I can attest to the notion that I hope to increase my students' knowledge and love of mathematics.  MBE science can be very beneficial when designing instruction to ensure we are delivering and assessing the material in the most efficient and appealing ways.  Most of the strategies described in chapter 3 are best practices to employ in a classroom.  However, the "yet sensibility" in chapter 5 is what I found to be the most impactful.  Many students struggle with perseverance.  Helping them to change their mindset to own of growth can establish a positive learning environment for all.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I hate to admit that before many of our readings and videos, I believed some of those "neuromyths."  These notions and stereotypes about learners are too widely accepted in education that I fear it will be difficult to reach all educators to change their mindsets.  However, if neuroscience is explored in pre-service teaching programs we can foster a new generation  of instructors and learners.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Digital Use Divide</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During week 2 we had the opportunity to read the national report Future Ready Learning: Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education (PK-12).  While the main ideas are to empower learners through technology and implementing the plan to do through a learning network and infrastructure, one note stood out most to me.  When I am implementing technology in my own classroom is it passive or active use?  Sometimes I believe the use may be more passive; completing assignments online just to make use of the students' Chromebooks.  How can I increase and improve the active use of technology?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Currently being out on leave, I am not able to transfer some of these ideas into my classroom.  However, it does provide an extended period of reflection.  What changes will I make upon my return?  What am I already doing that fits with best practices?  <br>Glows:<br>1) Using frequent formative assessments.<br>2) Some varied modality in teaching.<br>3) Using technology for formative assessments and exploration.<br>4) Incorporating authentic assessments in pre-algebra classes. (Using skills &amp; content in a real-world application.)<br>Grows:<br>1) Stop starting class by reviewing HW.<br>2) Increase use of technology for learning exploration and problem solving.<br>3) Foster a growth mindset in students by praising effort.<br>4) Incorporate authentic assessments in geometry and algebra 2 classes.</div>]]></description>
