One of them is the awakening to sexuality of a young village girl, who not only sings well, but acts in a strangely innocent way. She is a country woman, who sees animals conceived and born; a daughter of parents who does not hide their mutual sexual passions; a high school student in which promiscuity continues to abound, showing her best friend and confidant, even with her own deaf brother. And yet, the young Paula is full of purity and freshness, and the filmmakers allow us to appreciate and enjoy this rare gift, so that it stays on our retinas, without falling into the temptation to wear it down. The other problem is the lives of people in these modern societies. It is a subject abundantly treated in American cinema, but perhaps not so much in European or French cinema. We see the vitality of the small city where history unfolds: the market and the businesses of the peasants; the fertile and well-cared fields; the high school with notable teachers and awake students; well-operated farms based on machinery and technology; local television channels; local business capacity. Even characteristics of popular participation and certain political maturity.
