I have seen grade pods that work together well, but I have also seen ones that prefer to work individually. The students notice when partner teachers do not work well together. You are also able to share academic and social information about students and be on the same page. I think that subject specific teams tend to focus so much on one discipline that integrating subjects becomes less of a focus and their only focus becomes their subject. I think it is important for students to experience fluidity. If not all team members are respected, gossip tends to happen as well as exclusion. I have seen it happen, and it creates awkward tension. However, it takes a village to teach a student and especially multiple students. For example, the ELA teacher could have the students write a paper on their science experiments. Also, working as a group to really reach all of the students in the grade is crucial.

There have been way too many times where one person in the group is taking over the conversation and not allowing others to speak or shooting down their ideas without even thinking and in my opinion, that does not foster a good environment of learning.
