Freedom is when people can do what they feel like without needing someone's consent. Example: Being allowed to voice your opinion with no restrictions. In the world state no one is truly free, everything is being controlled by the World Controllers. In a way, our world is also not truly free, as there are some regulations and rules we are made to follow.

Freedom Definition- the ability to express one's mind, and opinion without a hindrance from the government. We are never truly free because there are laws in place that hinder us from hurting other people or ourselves.Even though we have the ability to think or say what we want, this freedom is up to an extent, until our speech or act hurt others. We have many opportunities, but we do nt have the ability to say and think everything

We are never truly free in my opinion. However I don't find that necessarily a bad thing. My definition of freedom is that anyone can do anything regardless of the consequences. We obviously don't have that because we have laws in place. One isn't allowed to murder for example, because murder hinders society. However these laws to restrict certain freedoms are what keeps the world running. In order for society to work, we need to restrict freedom, the challenge is to minimize how much freedom we restrict while still remaining functioning. The world state, while not having strict law punishment, have strict laws and implied laws to keep society stable. Therefore they are not free.

To me, freedom is the ability to be able to pursue one's passions and desires without restrictions upon what he or she can or can't do. In our society, we are given a great deal of freedom to chose what we want to do, however, we are still bound by unspoken societal standards and written laws that dictate what we can't do in our lives, or what we shouldn't do according to what the societal standards. In Brave New World, people have all the freedom to do what they want, as long as it aligns with what the World-State society wants for each person. Anytime that code is broken, the person is held under supervision or scrutinized for their heretic behavior.

If it did, it would only pertain to the individual, and since The Individual is a mythical construct with no meaning, freedom is also a myth. "Based on this discovery, we can realize our destiny by equally sharing everything with everybody.""
The author believes that freedom does not actually exist for the people because we've made it that way.

In the song,Geroge Michael's sense of freedom is the ability to buy materials, and enjoy his life. Moreover,he sings about the "good" parts of freedom, and how you sometimes you got to lose somethings for freedom in general. He then talks about how freedom is not always easily attained. In the novel, citizens live in this Utopian society, where everyone is brainwashed. But to get the jobs and maintain the society, the must give up certain aspects of their freedom so that they can live happily. In our modern society,we have given up somethings for our freedom and protection.Sometimes,we may even have given up privacy in trade for protection for ourselves and freedom.

I believe that the author is attempting to argue that freedom is an unattainable concept that has been tainted by greed. An example of this is demonstrated when the author argues the corruptness of the media by expressing, "And if, by chance, the people don't like a mass movement that trumpets freedom because they recognize a deception, the media will call it freedom 24/7 anyway, because they're paid to" (Rappoport 1). In other words, the author demonstrates how the media, who acts an agent for the people, is corrupted by intentionally misinforming on significant matters for money. I agree with this statement since CNN has been known to place its personal agendas ahead of its duty to serve the public.

He argues " It doesn't matter how far the word is being twisted. This relates to the novel because everything in the world state thinks they have freedom, but their lives are really being controlled from the moment they are born. In our society, people do not appreciate our freedom to the fullest. But, people who live outside our country think freedom is a great privilege and view the US as a perfect community.

The song is trying to show how everyone has a different definition of what freedom is. Freedom brings happiness but sometimes to attain that freedom you have to give things up. "I just hope you understand. Sometimes the clothes do not make the man. All we have to do now Is take these lies and make them true somehow" (Michael). In essence, Michael is describing to the audience the necessity of throwing away your mask in front of society to truly embrace the individual that you wish to become. This relates to our modern day society since there are people in school who will do whatever they can to make friends, losing their freedom in the process.

The singer talks about not being controlled and not playing into the image society has for people. It also talks about fighting for your freedom no matter what others say. The line of "sometimes the clothes do not make the man" relates especially to modern society as people tend to judge each other and conform to the image of society but often times that image doesn't correlate to the actual personality of the person.

And that by believing the new definition of freedom, the people create a cycle of "freedom" and get more and more absorbed in their definition of freedom. But the individual realizes this and tries to break away, and the true individual is an artist who's able to see through all the fallacies of popular opinion. The quote our group liked was the part where the author talks about how we are focusing on the wrong problem and letting the real problem go untreated.

In my opinion, freedom means the right to do as one pleases - speaking, gathering, believing, and act as they choose - but it is only considered freedom until one's choices start to transgress another person's freedom. I also believe thaqt we are never truly free because of the amount of control technology has over our lives or how much society controls what we do. In that sense, society and techonolgy go together because we are pressured by the social norms we find in the things we surround ourselves in and become objects that simply follow the orders that are given to us. Similarly, in Brave New World, the people believe that they have the freedom to do whatever they want when they are actually being controlled by the society they live in and it dictates every action that they take.

The author is conveying that because society has created so many false things about individuals an how they act, an individual is not an individual anymore and the term has become something of the past or something that people don't understand completely. We have taken away the true meaning of an individual and because freedom is based around a singular person, it does not exist anymore because people have lost their individuality.

A person must work for what they want and give certain things up in order to achieve freedom and the happiness that may come with it. The line that states, "I just hope you understand sometimes the clothes do not make the man" relates to our society because as of modern times, people only look at the materialistic things that a person has and bases a lot of their judgement off of what the person seems to have or not have. This line can also be related to the novel because all of the World State citizens are placed in a caste system based on what they can do and what they are wearing but they are only like that because society has forced them to become that way.
