Cuba before its revolution was known for being the largest producer of sugar for the U.S. So as a result the U.S. invested a lot of money into Cuba for its sugar until the market had ended up crashing. This had caused a depression in Cuba due to the fact that the countries main form of income was from sugar. Many of the people in the country as a result had believed that communism would solve their problems which was an idea that was spread to the poor Cubans by Fidel Castro trying to over throw the current Cuban government. He had eventually succeeded saying that he wouldn't back the U.S. or the Soviets but very quickly went back on his word voicing his hatred for the U.S. and support for the soviets. These series of events had caused the U.S. to train Cuban guerrilla soldiers who wanted to over throw Fidel Castro they would plan an assault on Fidel Castro called the bay of pigs that inevitably would end up failing leaving Fidel Castro in power and Cuba now being a communist country. https://www.britannica.com/event/Cuban-Revolution/The-rise-of-Castro-and-the-outbreak-of-revolution
