This had caused a depression in Cuba due to the fact that the countries main form of income was from sugar. Many of the people in the country as a result had believed that communism would solve their problems which was an idea that was spread to the poor Cubans by Fidel Castro trying to over throw the current Cuban government. He had eventually succeeded saying that he wouldn't back the U.S. or the Soviets but very quickly went back on his word voicing his hatred for the U.S. and support for the soviets.
