LG: I think that in their minds they wanted something official to make sure that both of the groups would do what their promise was. They wanted it more official. 
GAM: They wanted to make a promise but it broke into a million pieces.
They wanted the land and the resources. 
KA: These were kind of like contracts, but Indigenous people signed them without fully understanding what was in them because they didn't speak the language, and so sometimes the Europeans could sneak in things that would only benefit themselves.
