I was mainly considering the main instructional aspect when I started this, but this has led me to think a lot more about how my individual interaction with students are affected by cultural bias in instruction.

1. The tally sheet was a big eye opener for me so making sure you have as much equal representation as possible. 
2. There are those who need representation but you can't always see it. You can see color. And sometime religion. We all develop stereotypes and oversimplify our schemas in how we think about those who we categorize as "other." That in turn led to aspects of Japanese culture that I always knew but hadn't incorporated in the course. Often we say Japan has a homogenous society. On reflection, that's not true. I explored many of the underrepresented populations in Japan - ethnic minorities, LGBTQ communities, accomplished women. CRP is an antidote to inequity by design. All instruction is culturally responsive. The question is to whose culture is it responding? Our K-12 educational paradigm is of White Eurocentric content orientation. It was designed to create racial stratification. Connection and trust leads to a feeling of belonging for our students. There is also cognitive neuroscience around sense of belonging. This course has been invaluable in bridging that gap.  I have so much more I want to do across my various courses now. I am very excited and anticipate at least a year's worth of work ahead on just this.
