People mostly use drugs during high school because of peer pressure, and stress. Once you get to high school, your friends will start to do thing you should be doing until you are 18 like smoking, alcohol, etc. If your friends are doing it, they will also probably pressure you into doing it too. They start doing drugs, smoking, etc because of the stress in high school, or they probably do it because they think they don’t fit in, so they will probably do it just to look cool. However, if you are smoking or drinking under the age of 18, you could get in serious trouble. They want you to smoke, and do drugs at 18 because when you turn 18 you are basically an adult, which means you are mature enough to make your own decisions.

1. People who abuse substances are most likely to have these problems. Or vice versa. It depends on the person.

This is because some people are struggling with problems that includes mental health, they become mentally unhealthy and are lost and confused. They will try to do almost everything to make it stop in some cases. They try to “get rid” of these problems by abusing substances or taking drugs. They take drugs because when they get high, it’s a way for them to “escape reality” and be in a more calming state. They choose this option because they would rather create an illusion where they don’t have to care about a thing in a world than deal with stress, anxiety, bullying, depression, low self esteem and a bad body image of themselves.

Determine the most common reasons why people abuse substances.

Peer pressure.

Peer pressure is one of the main reasons for drug abuse. Most of the teens or even kids, get are peer pressured to use drugs, and get told “You'll be cool if you take drugs”, ”It's all natural.” or “Just try a little bit.” Those are words from drug addicts, and teens that don't care about their hygiene or health. People are scared, they just want to fit in, and sticking with the crowd. Many kids are “two-faced,” for example, they act all sweet and polite to adults, and teachers, and act so mean, or even peer pressure other children to do drugs, for example. That is how peer pressure is faced. Be careful of what people you are around. Be friends with people you can trust, and if you are experiencing trouble with drugs, or peer pressure, tell a trusted adult or your parents.

1. Analyse the relationships between poor mental health and substance abuse.

Mental illness + Concurrent disorder = Substance abuse

The relationship between poor mental health and substance abuse is if you have poor mental health, and you don't have good self esteem then sometimes your body and brain think that drugs and alcohol might be the only way to cure it. The more severe the underlying mental health or substance abuse problem is, the more likely it will turn into a concurrent disorder. For example, a person might use alcohol or help with feelings of anxiety and depression or use drugs to help with symptoms of ADHD. See?, the relationship here is that people with mental illnesses are more likely to abuse alcohol and drugs to hide all the feelings and “feel good about themselves”.

2.
