Austria-Hungary's involvement in World War I was by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was set to inherit the Austro-Hungarian throne, he was assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.
This Assassination was formed by a Bosnian Serb, Gavrilo Princip, who was involved with the nationalist party of Bosnia.
Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and with Germany in Austria-Hungary’s ear, they declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914.

The Battle of Tannenberg was fought between the Germans and Russians, Germans had won this battle which helped them to stabilize their eastern front. However, this battle affected Austria-Hungary because Austria-Hungary relied on German military support in the early days of the war.

The Treaty of Saint-Germain ended the war between Austria and the Allies. This treaty was not good for Austria because it imposed harsh penalties on Austria, including the loss of large portions of its territory to Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Poland.
