the editing techniques are following him throughout the whole film. each scene is always focussed on him and his actions. the colours used are very dull in certain parts where he is wanting to stand out to the viewers. the giant staircase foreshows his beginning and end character, which only viewers will know if they’ve seen the ending of the film before. the cuts are extremely fast when he’s getting chased to make the scene seem more intense. they added some CG in the editing process in order to make that specific scene more claustrophobic.

Editing Used In The Joker

In the first 15 mins on the film there are many subtle editing techniques used to create a haunting tone that is continued throughout the film. The superimposed buildings make the city seem as if it’s suffocating. The close up shots of the face add to the chilling atmosphere, and though there is little dialogue, the viewer feels uncomfortably close to the character.

- From the beginning of the movie we get an idea of the time period with the old Warner Bros Logo.

- In the opening shot the radio can be heard talking about the piles of rubbish building up in the city.

- The colour grading gives almost everything a sickly yellow hue. Creating discomfort.

- In the long shot at "Gotham Square" we can see barely see Arthur in the distance because of his bright outfit and yellow sign. This not only shows how insignificant he is but also shows how different he is from everyone else in the city. An outcast.

-When Arthur is being beaten in the ally, Hildar's score creeps into the background adding to the already uncomfortable atmosphere.
