Hi all,

I sadly didn't know of any activist projects off the top of my head, but I discovered the important work of the NWAC. From their website: "The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is a National Indigenous Organization representing the political voice of Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse people in Canada, inclusive of First Nations on and off reserve, status and non-status, disenfranchised, Métis and Inuit. An aggregate of Indigenous women’s organizations from across the country, NWAC was founded on the collective goal to enhance, promote and foster the social, economic, cultural and political well-being of Indigenous women within their respective communities and Canada societies."

Looking forward to learning about other projects you may know of!

This article informed me of the Hollaback movement that I really have not heard about lately. It brings forward storytelling as a tool for social justice and as a builder of identity (Wӓnggren, 2016). Through our stories, we empower not only ourselves, but each other by listening. It is about addressing everyday sexism, and I see this a lot lately in Tik Tok. What is interesting though, is that the storytelling is not only done by men, but by all genders. I wonder if that takes away the power of women’s voices?

This weeks readings allowed me to reflect on a few of the projects that I am aware of that are targeted to women and LGBTQ2IA+ individuals.

Women:
https://artgirlrising.com/pages/projects To raise awareness about the inequalities that women artists face.

One feminist group that I've come across in my research and reading is the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW). Their mission, as stated on the website:

CRIAW-ICREF is a research institute which provides tools to facilitate organizations taking action to advance social justice and equality for all women. CRIAW-ICREF recognizes women’s diverse experiences and perspectives; creates spaces for developing women’s knowledge; bridges regional isolation; and provides communication links between/among researchers and organizations actively working to promote social justice and equality for all women.

Source: https://www.criaw-icref.ca/

Last year, I came across this charity as I was looking for a way to contribute to the Afghan people. This foundation resonated with me because of the work they do with Afghan women, focusing a lot on education. Their mission reads as follow:
Canadians taking action, in partnership with Afghan women, toward improving conditions of human rights, ending women’s oppression, and providing opportunities for Afghan women to live their lives with dignity, certainty and purpose.

https://cw4wafghan.ca/about-us/
