#1 Latino Night

Latino Night was the best thing we've done this semester! I liked Latino Night because it was a great way to show our Latino culture to the community. There were many different activities that kids and many adults enjoyed! For Latino Night Suly and I chose to show the community some dances our culture does. I wanted to show Cumbia because it is a dance I've learned since I was 6 and it is super fun to teach. That night, we had some people stop by and they seemed to enjoy learning the dances. I loved how the teachers even participated in this event and it seemed like they learned much more about our culture. I'm glad we were able to make this event happen because I believe it united us all and made us closer to each other.

The blogs were pretty important to me when we wrote them. I liked doing the blogs because it was an activity that made me think from the questions Mrs. Parker gave us. The first blog we did was about our cultural selves and it was a great blog to start with. I wrote about how having a latino culture is very special to me and how my parent's characteristics have shaped me today. My favorite blog I wrote was the inspiration one. I liked that one because that one actually made me think about it. I talked about how my parents inspire me and are the reason why i try my best in school to give them what they weren't able to get. I also wrote how I'm my own inspiration and push myself to doing the things I love to do.

#3 Scrapbooks

During Latino Literature we did an activity of what was called scrapbooks. This was also a fun activity we did because we wrote about certain events we enjoyed or something that was important to us. I wrote about what my favorite celebration was and it was about my quinceanera. As I wrote about my quinceanera, it brought back many memories which made me enjoy writing about it more. This also showed what our Latino culture consists of because in a quinceanera there's meaning to it than just a party. In my scrapbook I also wrote about my name, my culture, and about my best friend. Basically this scrapbook was made to show who I am. I enjoyed this and I'm hoping this can be shared to others so they can learn more about me.

House on Mango Street was probably the best book I've read in my english classes. This book was good because it had some interesting things about herself. I liked how Esperanza compared herself to things by how she feels. For example, there was this part where she explained how she was a red balloon tied to an anchor. There were many quotes Esperanza said in this book that I really liked. There were many quotes about her identity and the first one she talked about was about her name. She would have quotes that dealt with friendships, the society, her family, hopes and dreams, and more! I also liked this book because there were times you would think of like why would Esperanza compare herself to a certain object.

#5 Traditions

In this activity our class made posters and celebrations showing different traditions. Suly and I made a presentation about Navidad and Posadas. We didn't really have to do a lot of research on it because we were confident on our topic. When we did the compare and contrast part of the assignment, we found interesting facts about other countries. There was also other traditions the class talked about. There was Quinceaneras, Semana Santa, Dia de los Muertos, Los Reyes, Carnaval, and 5 de Mayo. I didn't really know we had Carnaval as a celebration. I was able to learn more about it when my classmates talked about it. The rest of the celebrations I already knew about, but I learned something new from it. Making the posters of our traditions was the fun part of the assignment and I hope more people know about our traditions.
