Diversity, culture and inclusion means to me that everyone is different, unique and has their own perspective. We all come from a different background, race, gender, religion, and have our own opinions and ways of how we see things, at the end it is what brings everyone together. It is about understanding each other differences and perspective but accepting one how they are. We can learn from each other’s culture, background and accept one another.

To me, diversity means having multiple variations of one thing whether it be people, animals, art styles, etc. Culture is where you are from or what you have grown up with; the things in your life that define you such as how you dress, what you eat, what you celebrate, what your traditions are, etc. Inclusion is it include and engage with someone no matter who they are, having no bias and accepting their culture.

I personally do not have a lot of diversity in my life as everyone around me is mostly from the same culture and background as me, however, that does not mean I am opposed to diversity. With culture, I think it is very interesting to learn about different cultures and how much they differ from mine. There are so many different things that go into one culture that it’s overwhelming to think of all the various way in which we are different, but not in a bad way. Inclusion is very important to me as I know how much I hate being left out. However, it can still be hard to look past certain biases for me and I often find myself hanging out with those that I already know or those who are like me. This is definitely something I have to work on and I should never be excluding anyone based on their different culture.

Diversity to me is usually associated when I am in a setting that involves many people, regardless of appearance, gender, interest, or etc. Culture is something I see as part of social groups. There is an immense amount of culture and each one is unique in their customs and achievements. Inclusion to me is seeing people without labels. Labels lead to division being the exact opposite of inclusion, and we tend to leave people out. Diversity is something that still exist and will always as long as we live. Culture changes naturally, new ones can form, and that is the cycle that exist within itself. Inclusion is something we lack today, we find it easier to see differences and it is affecting the way we connect with one another. A culture I take part in is Chicano culture. I am Mexican American so by definition I am Chicana. The Chicano community is extremely diverse because we are children of immigrants from Mexico. We all grow up differently with passed on customs.

When I think of things such as diversity, culture and inclusion. They all share one same meaning to me. In this big world there many races, languages, cultures, people, religions. Yet we are all the same human race. Which is makes our story as humans sad. With our diverse histories, stories and all the contents that contributes to our diversity as people. We skip the beauty of that. Same with our culture we skip past all of the beauties to our world. Inclusion to me is what we need more of. Our human history consists of leaving people out. Accounts of slaveries, wars, hardship. When it all comes back to us being human. Life could be so much better if we skip past the atrocities and hardships we put on ourselves and relax and enjoy the beauty to our world. Our cultures and diversities. What makes us unique. Things like this spread a lot of love to me and I think would for most people and could get rid of a lot of the hate that goes on in this world.

Diversity to me means different ideas, races, religion, gender, color, languages, etc., it is all that makes us different but at the same time unique. Culture defines where we come from and which country we represent. Culture helps us communicate with the rest of society. Culture also represents our traditions. And finally inclusion is respecting the customs, opinions, etc., of the society that surrounds us. It is educating ourselves as a person, respecting and being able to learn from each one of us. These three words make us different but at the same time the same, it is what complements us as humanity.

I feel as though it is important to be educated on other cultures and be inclusive towards everyone no matter what they look like. In general, we can learn a lot from people who are different from us and it is crucial to be open-minded and accepting towards them because at the core, we are all the same. In regards to my experience with inclusion, I was pretty excluded from other students because I did not go to school with many that looked like me. I would get bullied for it which resulted in my self esteem dropping; I was even ashamed of my ethnicity. Now, I have grown from that but through that, I know the importance of acceptance towards everyone. - Mia Yeung

To me diversity means people from different backgrounds, whether it's race or gender/gender identity, coming together and sharing their different ideas and perspectives, sharing their languages etc. They are all things that makes us different, but once we get to know one another we see that we are not as different as they world may have us believe. But really to me diversity, culture and inclusion are all pretty much the same thing. They all allow us to share our differences and experiences with one another and learn from each other. The only thing that really sets us apart as humans is maybe language barriers, but once we get past that we learn that we are not as different as we think. For example, when I was about 4 or 5 I lived in a very small apartment with my mom, dad, and brother. Both my mom and dad immigrated from Mexico at a young age. My mom came from Guadalajara at 13 to take care of my aunts baby, my cousin Jessie, and my dad came here in search of his mother. We had a next door neighbor who immigrated from Somalia at 10 years old to help her sibling with whatever they needed. She had two daughters around my age and we would always play with each other. My mom and their mother would form a friendship where they would talk pretty much every hour they could. Both would have some difficulty understanding one another but would get each others meaning nonetheless. One day we had to sell our dining table to pay for food and our neighbor graciously let us borrow her table while we bought another. We borrowed that table for 6 months before we could afford one of our own. During those times we learned about her culture and traditions, and most importantly we learned that we were not at all that different from her and her family. Both her and my mom experienced similar things when immigrating from their homes, they were miles apart but almost had the same lives. Things like this show that we are all human and we can all learn from each other, and help one another.

Diversion, Culture, and Inclusion mean a lot to me-- they mean a world where everyone shares a connection in one way or another. These three elements are the gateway to beneficial mutualism, which is the act of many people supporting one another so that they can all work toward creating a life where they each feel successful and satisfied with what they have accomplished. Diversity pushes us to think on our toes and put more effort into finishing a project, assignment, or task. Culture is the foundation by which groups of people live their lives; the way people interact with one another, the hospitality, they show, the food they eat, and the traditions that occur on particular days of the year are all constructed and dictated by the culture of the group. Cultures vary by region of the world and religion, and culture clashes can occur if a person is exposed to (and trying to adapt to) several cultures at once. It can definitely be a daunting and scary task to fulfill but managing culture clash is possible; it requires cultural competency and creative thinking in order to build a compromise of understanding between the clashing values that one may face. Inclusion is the key for collective contribution and success. Each individual harbors their own viewpoints, ideas, and talents-- when all of those things are brought together into one group, then we can achieve remarkable things. As the saying goes, "it takes a village". No one man traveled to the moon, but it took a team of immensely dedicated physicists, mathematicians, engineers, and other scientists to fulfill a collective dream and to achieve what was seemingly impossible. Ideas and viewpoints may initially appear abstract, but when we prioritize and celebrate inclusion, we will be able to do things that we never dreamed we could do.

I believe that Diversity, Culture, and Inclusion go hand and hand with each other to create the world we live in. I think of diversity has what makes you different from someone else, your race, gender, and religion. Ones culture is where we come from, their beliefs, and the social institutions from a certain social group. Inclusion is the act of being included and excepted by others of different cultures to have the same opportunities and to be treated the same as others no matter what your differences are. The United States is very diverse with many different races and ethnicity of different cultures while were are also a very open and inclusive country having many different diverse people together as one population.

Diversity is the means of understanding people from different backgrounds. This doesn't just mean a ethnicity or gender, this can relate to so many things. Diversity was seen as a bad thing in the past but in today's world, we celebrate it. This is because it's what makes someone special. It gives them their own individuality. Culture, Inclusion and Diversity are very much closely woven together. They all relatively mean the same thing. These big three circle cultures, people, ethnicities, gender and languages. I think it's super important for cultures to understand the others around them, so they can all relate on a bigger level. That we can all learn different things about one another is we are willing to try.

Inclusion means adding someone into a group. For example, including someone who just discovered that they are gay into the LGBTQ community.

To me, diversity means that there are always people around who have a different lifestyle and sense of culture. Everyone is different and has a different background, and diversity, it allows you to learn of traditions or life in other parts of the world. Diversity and practicing or at least learning about different cultures is something we all need as it allows us to broaden our horizons. Inclusion for me means that you include others of different cultures and accept them for who they are rather than simply how they look. The united states is a melting pot with 100's of different cultures and ethnicities around the country, and we're open to having an inclusive country all living under one population. Personally, I believe it's important for everyone to be exposed to diversity as it will allow us to break stereotypes and social barriers.

To me the concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual. Also, in my point of view culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, and more. Inclusion is a state of being valued, respected, and supported. It’s about focusing on the needs of every individual.

I feel as though diversity, culture, and inclusion goes for everyone and is about including everyone. Diversity is what makes someone who they are as a person based on religion, race, who they identify as, if they are disabled..the list goes on. People can recognize their diversity by looking into each other's cultures and understanding how that makes them different from each other. Different cultures can easily bring people from other cultures together and have them bond as one. Inclusion falls under that category with culture. It is just including everyone no matter who you identify as.

In my opinion, diversity is the beautiful differences that each and every human holds. Diversity is something that must be embraced and encouraged, especially in times of such division. The ideas of diversity also completely intertwine with the influences of culture; everyone's culture is slightly different, as I believe that the concept of culture is not just a national background or tradition, but is also heavily affected by the people around oneself and their additions to one's life. Through all of these influences, one's individual culture is born, added to, and ever changing as they live their life. Inclusion, on the other hand, is the steps to take after embracing one's diversity and culture. Allowing everyone to have equal opportunity and be part of this world together is what inclusion should and eventually will fully reflect.

My personal experiences with diversity and culture are not too exciting. I have grown up in the same school system throughout my whole life and going to Grossmont is my first branching out from that. My cultural background is full of Filipino and Latvian heritage, and yet I do not know much about either, and I am much more Americanized that anything else. However, I have always felt included throughout my life, and have felt no backlash in that regard. I find that even when someone disagrees with my views, I am still able to work through that and find common ground.

To me diversity is when people of different colors cultures and ages can come together and connect. because were all human and we all got something in common. I think the USA is really good at that. I've had very interesting conversations with people from different country s religions and cultures. people are so open about there experiences here I've been to mexico and there not even half as accepting. i remember Mexicans throwing rocks at the Dominicans and Haitians migrating to the border. some people accept others some don't i'm glad San Diego is more accepting than not.
culture is when people share a way of living with the people who have the same values, beliefs and similar lifestyles with each other. Its about having things in common with another person and being able to connect with them because of those things. I can have a deeper conversation with someone who comes from a similar lifestyle because we understand each other better. We can understand what its like for those people because we walked similar paths.
Inclusion goes hand in hand with diversity. Your not being inclusive if you don't accept different kinds of people. once a kids from El Salvador came to our school he was very open about everything that was going on were he was from and all the things he went through. Everyone was so accepting even though he knew no english. A year later he knew english and was acting like he was an american. You would never know what he went through by looking at him. That showed me how important inclusion is, it can change a person who is been through so much and make them heal and become a happier person.

To me diversity, culture, and inclusion mean we all come together as a society and accept everyone for who they are. Diversity is what makes us different from one another. It's what makes all of us beautiful human beings. Culture is defined as one's beliefs, knowledge, and way of life. Culture and diversity together define us. Inclusion is accepting individuals who are diverse and differ in culture from ourselves. Though I look white my dad is Mexican and I have more culture in my life than one would expect. I love meeting people from different countries, who speak different languages and live in completely different ways. It's crucial that we include individuals in our lives and welcome them to countries and areas they are not from. Overall, diversity, culture, and inclusion today are some of the most important things for us to all come together to make the world a better place.

To me, Diversity means being surrounded by different groups of people that are not the same as you. People differ from you based on the outside, like your race or gender. Diversity is more about being surrounded by people who have different views about their religion, beliefs, education, justice, values, moralities, ambitions, traditions, cultures, goals, personalities, character traits, and how they view life in general. People work together and communicate with each other despite having different social statuses, economic statuses, speaking different languages, disabilities, health statuses, and other things that can discredit or discriminate against people. Diversity means breaking or bending the rules status quo of race or gender. To understand people from their point of view to learn, grow, and make strangers into friends, and friends into the family even though we are not blood-related. To me, Inclusion is about a person being welcomed into an organization, fellowship community, or club to empathize with their surroundings that there should not be any discrimination against anyone. Diversity and Inclusion create communities for people from all parts of the world. Culture brings people from different parts of the world to share their education, religion, technology, inventions, traditions, toys, activities, and food for people to share peace and understand one another from their point of view. That's where diversity and inclusion play a role to have communities that welcome diversity and change. There will always be a compromise. However, we would need to come to solutions to resolve problems for a variety of groups of people. To find community with people who will accept overs rather than dividing them.

To me I when ever I hear the word Diversity, I always think about a group of something that has many things with similar qualitys or aspects but are all different in their own unique way. I never really related diversity to people until more recently but when I do, I think about all of the different aspects that make someone unique and special in their own way whether its skin color, hair, or even personality. I recently asked both of my parents about diversity in their schools and they said that it was not very diverse when they went to school. After hearing this I had fest really lucky that I got to grow up in a time where their was so many different types of people going to my schools from all over the world which alowed my to have cool friends that had different cultures so I could experience all of that with food and such. Inclusion to me means that somebody is welcomed into an activity or group which I love when everyone is included so they can have a fair chance no matter what group or event it is. When I was pretty young, I would always be left out of activities that my cousins were doing because I was too young and they would call me things like baby and child even though I was just a couple years younger than them. Now on my moms boyfriends side of the family I am the oldest cousin so I try to inlcude everybody and play videogames with them no matter what age they are and I always encourage them to be their best and we have a great time.

Culture encompasses the customs, traditions, values and beliefs of different groups of people. Culture can be identified in contexts as broad as whole countries, or pertain to individual states, cities, and even families. These varying cultures are part of why diversity and inclusion are so important in our society, especially because the United States is home to such a diverse population with many different cultures. Diversity is important because it allows people of different backgrounds to share their experiences and culture with one another. Having a nation that values diversity can allow people to feel that they do not have to conform or change their unique culture to fit in. Diversity allows people to feel seen, as well as gives them the courage to live authentically and without societal limitations; it allows one to surround themselves with people who are like them, and people who are very different from them. A key component of a diverse society is inclusion. Inclusion must be practiced within diversity, because it is what prevents diversity from being seen as differences that divide us, instead of bringing people together. Culture, inclusion, and diversity are interconnected in that they each define important aspects of living in a world that celebrates, encourages, and accepts differences and variety. My family’s culture is a mixture of traditions, food, customs, language, and customs from my Mexican heritage as well as my family that is from the Midwest, so this is one example of what diversity and inclusion mean to me and my family.

Diversity and inclusion mean to me a special expansion of the world. I believe that all people regardless of race, creed, or other affiliation should be feeling included in the world we all play a part in. Culture to me is very important. It is my identity. It is my traditions, my language, my religion, and my mannerisms. And I think everyone should be proud of theirs, dually, that we all respect one another's. Growing up in Southern California, I have always been exposed to a diverse group of people. I also found a way to try and incorporate various cultures in my life for my own personal enrichment. I think that is an important thing to keep alive through the ages. That all people have their own contributions to make, and that these contributions can enrich the culture of everyone. As such, we should work very hard towards creating a more open world.

This can allow them to build off each other's strength's and eliminate weaknesses with team work. Diversity is being able to do so without hatred or outward dislike of different people.
I've come from a fairly diverse country to an even more diverse country. While in Iraq the different populations lived fairly far away from each other, while in the US they lived very close to each other. I've enjoyed the friends I've made in the United States since 2nd grade and have never truly paid attention to their differences but I've learned a lot from them.

To me, diversity means people who have many differences coming together to form a group. Diversity in a group or a community means each individual in that group is unique in their own way. I feel that diversity is somehow needed for a nation or society to grow. I experience diversity in my everyday life because my neighborhood and friends come from different backgrounds. Also, the places I eat and shop at are always filled with people who are from various backgrounds. I believe culture is a person’s customs, morals, beliefs, and religion. Personally, I have adapted to the different cultures around me. Culture is what makes a certain social group/nation/society different from others. In my opinion, inclusion simply means removing barriers to create an equal environment where everyone has an opportunity to thrive in their life. I think America has done a great job building and creating that type of society. I feel included in my community so I try to make others feel the same way around me.
(Ayub Sakawe)

Diversity, culture, and inclusion are key aspects of fundamental principles such as acceptance, tolerance, and understanding. These principles are important to embody not only as individuals, but as a society. Diversity is the variance of backgrounds that enables the sharing of different experiences and perceptions. The aspect of diversity is necessary to gain insight into others’ perspectives, while simultaneously finding shared perspectives. However, diversity and inclusion should go hand in hand. For, having a diverse population can also elicit exclusion, since differences have the ability to create separation. Inclusion is the key aspect to reaping the benefits of diversity, for including all backgrounds and cultures is what leads to the understanding of others’. Culture encapsulates the nature of different groups of people; how they interact with others, the traditions they practice, how they view the world, etc. Thus, culture is also intertwined with diversity and inclusion, since they are all necessary to each other. Diversity is going to include culture, while inclusivity of different cultures must be established within diversity. Personally, diversity has contributed to my core values of open-mindedness and eclecticism. Attending diverse schools and working in a subacute facility with a variety of different cultures has facilitated my personal beliefs. Thus, I feel that diversity, culture, and inclusion are both necessary to each other and necessary to individuals and society as a whole.

Diversity, in my eyes, is when a group of people has different backgrounds whether it's ethnicity, sexuality, culture, beliefs, and or personalities. Culture is the rich customs and traditions that a group of people shares based on a region, like a country or neighborhood, or something a group of people have in common. Inclusion is when no matter what background someone comes from, everyone feels welcomed and no one feels left out. Also, everyone feels respected and seen.

I’ve experienced diversity throughout my life. One of my first and main experiences with diversity would be at school. Since I went to a public school, I was exposed to people that come from many different backgrounds and have different beliefs.

Diversity, culture and inclusion make the world a better place. I believe that these three things are important for our world to function. Diversity allows us to see things from someone else's perspective. Whether that be religion, music, food or physical appearance, we all bring something different to the world. Culture also makes us unique. If we didn't have different cultures I believe the morals of people would not be as strong as they are today. Culture, for most of us, defines our upbringing. When we get to share the special parts of our culture with others, I believe that is beautiful. In the Mexican culture we have a day called Dia de los Muertos. On this day we make alters for those that we love and have passed away. Over the years I have gotten the chance to share this tradition with my friends. When the movie Coco came out I also felt inclusion within the Disney movie because there was an entire film dedicated to an important holiday that I have celebrated my entire life.

Diversity, culture and inclusion all play an important roles in our everyday lives. Diversity celebrates our uniqueness and allows us to gain a better understanding of each others experiences. This is also true with culture. We gain an understanding of the past to better our future and honor where we come from. I have always loved learning about different cultures and I appreciate how sentimental and beautiful making tradition through culture is. Inclusion makes all the difference in understanding and appreciating each other too. Without inclusion people become distant from each other and it makes it easy for misunderstandings to happen. Everyone should, at the bare minimum, have equal opportunity and self expression. These three things all work together to create a world where we can accept and feel safe around each other.

Diversity, Culture, and inclusion is very important in our society and teaches us different backgrounds where we all come from. Diversity makes us all unique with our own features and different experiences. We all grow up with different cultures and beliefs which makes us all very different which is a good thing in this life because no one would enjoy every being exactly the same. Inclusion is also very important in our society and as the human race. We are made to interact with one another and share different expiernces. It is important to always include others to make them feel wanted because everyone wants to feel wanted. In this case, I have a great diverse group of friends that all have different backgrounds and experiences so it's just nice to hear about other peoples lives. Since we are all different and go through so many different things. It's very refreshing to hear about other cultures and beliefs so you can get a wide variety and learn so much more.
