Equality's discovery of light convinces him to believe in a revolutionary tool, and he now has a duty to "give [his] brothers a new light... brighter than they have ever known... There are no limits [this light can tell us ] anything but only if we choose to ask" (Rand 60).

Equality is now capable of seeing the truth behind everything, and such a discovery could bring momentous change to the rest of everyone around him. It is now his perceived duty to go out of his way and inform those that do not have access to such knowledge, so that the rest of society can benefit and live successfully with each other.

As Equality touches the wire to piece of zinc in the jar during one of his various experiments, “ under [his] fingers, was a miracle which had never occurred before, a new miracle and new power” (Rand 53).
Equality's new discovery of power through his rebellious actions leads to him being more knowledgeable than others in his community. The experiment conducted was the first clear to see visual of the "miracle." It was after learning about this new miracle, electricity, does Equality realize the power of knowledge due to the fact that Equality then starts to think of different ways to use electricity to improve different aspects in his lifestyle.

Equality 7-2521 is not the first, nor the last to experience loneliness and fear "For they dare not speak the thoughts of their minds. For all must agree with all, and they cannot know if their thoughts are thoughts of all, and so they fear to speak" (Rand 47). Although Equality's brothers are
surrounding each other they have a mutual feeling of isolation, even though they're together they feel imprisoned in the society that they have grown up in and thrived in. The doctors have now way of helping the boys because the constant feeling of desolation cannot be cured. The restrictions applied creates a barrier that keeps them from expressing the thoughts and emotions that haunt them.

As Equality 7-2521 witnesses the young Saint being burned, it seems as though "the eyes of the Transgressor [have] chosen [him] from the crowd... there [is] no pain in their eyes, and no knowledge of the agony of their body. There [is] only joy... and pride" (Rand 51). Despite the pain the Saint is facing, the knowledge of the Unspeakable Word gives him a sense of inner peace. As his eyes seem to beg Equality 7-2521 to remember the Unspeakable Word, here, Equality 7-2521's curiosity sparks and marks the beginning of his rebellion. Similar to the Saint, his thirst for knowledge becomes more important than the confining rules of society and the consequences he will face.

When Equality stared into Liberty’s eyes he realized “that in the wisdom of women the Golden One had understood more than we can understand” (Rand 45). As they look into each other's eyes they understand how they feel for each other. Equality's anger with his brethren doesn't come only from his growing sense of unease. Equality is angry that he doesn't get to choose who he loves. Although he was relieved to learn that Liberty had not yet gone to the place of mating, he stills feels angry. And Liberty understands this. Their mutual understanding has grown along with their relationship, and now she understands how Equality feels even if he doesn't say it. They are able to wordlessly communicate to each other how much they care for one another.

[He] worked with it, [he] tested it in more ways than [he] can describe" (Rand 53). Every night Equality went to his cave out of desire to find out new things, to experiment and to learn The lengths Equality goes through to push his discovery forward accentuate his wonder and his desire to rebel against society. Society is taught to stay within the limits, to not want to learn more then what you know.

The discovery of feelings and self-awareness in Liberty and Equality is new "For [they] did not understand what had made [them] do this, and [they] were afraid to understand it," (Rand 58). Liberty and Equality experience isolation within their group of brothers and sisters. During their meeting, a new concept is introduced to them where they are prioritized over their "unit". An act of instincts causes confusion as it is considered an act of selfishness.

Yet we can. We do. We have fought against saying it, but now it is said. We do not care”(Rand 54). He realizes that he possesses great knowledge and the things his society has been telling him are wrong. Equality's new discovery proves to him that the scholars aren't the only people who are intelligent and wise.
