Perryville occured when Confederate general Bragg was informed that the Union troops were coming but there weren't many of them. Soon after the troops arrived it turned out there were 55,000 Union troops and only 16,000 Confederate troops because they weren't prepared since they thought it was a small battle. Bragg was expecting a small easy battle that would be quick instead he had to face 55,000 troops when he only had 16,000, They had low supplies and not enough troops they left in the night and fled to East Tennessee, leaving the union the creek with water
