In these two chapters, Doctor Thorne learns that his niece's other uncle, Roger Scatcherd, has made him the executor of his estate. Inside of his will he has stipulated that if something should happen to his son, his only heir, then the bulk of his estate, which includes $200K, will go to his sister's first born child, which just so happens to be Doctor Thorne's niece Mary. Doctor Thorne spends the bulk of the remaining chapters going back and forth debating on whether he should tell Roger about this development.

The way Trollope continues to add dimension to the story through multiple plot lines always impresses me, but this one in particular I was surprised by. I knew that Mary would need to inherit in some way so that she could be with her obvious future man, Frank Gresham the younger, but I truly did not know how it was going to happen. I am curious to know if Roger Scatcherd, her unknown uncle, will come to be known to her or if he will die before she or Doctor Thorne can make him aware of the situation.

In the first two chapters of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo", there is a lot of story and world-building done. The reader is introduced to the character whom we hear the story from, Monique Grant. The reader learns that Evelyn Hugo is an old movie star who had many scandals when she was popular. Then it is set up that Monique Grant, a writer in New York City, has been asked to interview Evelyn Hugo, who has not been interviewed in years. Monique is a small writer in a big company and has no idea why Evelyn Hugo asked for her, and begins to research Evelyn. This is where the two chapters leave off.

In the third chapter, Monique Grant meets Evelyn, and gets even more confused. While Monique assumed she would be meeting with Monique to talk about her scandals, Evelyn sits Monique down and tells her to write a story about her (Evelyn's) life. Monique is incredibly confused, and Evelyn seems to simply enjoy toying around with her. Evelyn says that she wants the book about her to be published after she dies, and she wants Monique to publish it independent from her place of work. Monique is still incredibly confused, but agrees with Evelyns terms.

I am not fully sure what the rest of this book will be about though. Perhaps Monique's writing process and what happens after Evelyn dies? I don't know.

In these few chapters, the story progresses first by the main story line. In chapters 4 and 5 Monique continues her confusion about Evelyn Hugo, but there is not much more than that to say. In Chapter six, we move away from the main plot and we listen to Evelyn's story about her first husband. It is a chapter about how she was raised, and the first step to beginning to understand her as a character. You learn how she got out of Hell's Kitchen and how she got into acting, mainly by using her beauty.

In chapter 7, the story focuses on Monique's life when shes not writing about Evelyn, and a phone call with her mother about how her mom is coming to stay with her soon. Monique then expresses a bit of apprehension to the whole process of writing this book for Evelyn, and says that something fishy is going on. In chapters 8 and 9 the story shifts back to Evelyn, and her next lover, Don Adler. She first talks about a different man, Brick, that she went out with only for publicity that she hated. She then moved on to Don Adler. She speaks about how great of a guy he was to her, and how he proposed in front of everyone, but most importantly how real their relationship was. She also begins to foreshadow what went wrong in that marriage, but there isn't enough to write about yet.
