1. What I knew about architecture?

When I was young I actually wanted to be an architect because I had interest in designing and making buildings. That passion of wanting to be an architect slowly changed and now I am more into business, but besides that what did I know about architecture. Well I know that it involved being precised with the sizes, designs, building materials, and color since these factors will determine how it will look like at the end. Because if one of these factors is slightly incorrect it could ruin the entire thing and the architect would have to start over. Now to do architecture an individual needs to be able to imagine how the building will look like at the end because this will help the architect to prepare what is necessary for it to be completed. Architecture isn't something anyone can do right off the bat it takes time to learn and master the art of being an architect one must be equipped with the skills and knowledge of being one. That is the reason why people would hire professional architects because it isn't something a person can easily do. Because like I said before a single mistake will ruin the entire if you would notice throughout history there have been times were people who were not equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to be an architect resulted in making huge mistakes costing millions of money to be wasted. Also it is not only about building something because being an architect includes what you constructed look beautiful because even though you finished the construction if it was not designed to have features that brings out its beauty then don't be surprised if people would start calling it ugly or horrid to look at. There needs to be a balance of beauty and being precised when constructing buildings, statues, and etc. If you would think about it if architects were not precised and did not use the right building material it can cause accidents to happen and it would be the architect that be blamed. Architecture isn't just about building something that looks beautiful and well designed, but at the same time ensures safety that no accident would befall on them.

2. What I learned on architecture after the module?

There were a lot of misconceptions on my part, but thanks to the module I was able to correct myself. Architecture isn't limited to just buildings or statues there are other things like paintings for example that requires the mindset of an architect. Also there are a lot of important details that architects needs to take note of. In architecture everything that is constructed would usually have a purpose whether it would be for design, support, or to symbolize something it. Like for the Baguio Cathedral the two bells signify unity and equality among the people which is something that should be followed. Also the cathedral is a prime example that having a professional architect can make a building so strong it can survive a bombing. It does get complicated along the way since there are many things that an architect needs to worry about before he/she begins constructing. First is to understand what the building will serve or the symbol that it will represent. Once the architect figures that out he can proceed in imagining how it will look like. This will help the architect to know what he needs to be able to complete his construction. The class has discussed different kinds of architecture starting with the Greek, then the Roman, then the Organic, and so on. This shows that architecture is once again not limited to just one type only there are actually numerous types. Which means there are different ways an architect can do his job given the fact he has many choices to pick from. This once again proves my point that architecture is once again not something that can be easily learned and done without error. The buildings such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Saint Peter Basilica, and more shows that architecture can create great things the only limitation that architects have is his imagination. Because that is where the ideas of what to do when under construction. But an important thing that I can take from this experience so far is that everything has something that it symbolizes or represents regardless if we can relate with it or not. Overall i have enjoyed my time in this class so far and hope to feel this way for the rest of the school year.

I would like to more about how does one imagine such designs and make them into a reality so easily. Because when I look at Roman architecture I wonder how does an individual come up with such complex design, but is still able to make it look simple and beautiful at the same time. I want to know the thinking process or the thoughts that go through an architect when under construction. Because an individual's imagination is very limited so how does one break out of that limitation. Also how do architects be so precise and know what material they need for their work. It just amazes me on the amount of factors that could either ruin or complete the construction. While I do no longer have much interest in architecture as I did back then I still find that it still something that should be worth learning about.

The Miracles of Francis Xavier By Peter Paul Rubens

This painting of Francis Xavier by Peter Paul Rubens is a beautiful artwork because it shows what kind of person Xavier was and the miracles he did during his time. As you can see in the painting Francis Xavier was preaching to a crowd of people and performed miracles this included summoning a man back from the dead, healing the blind, and casting an idol from a temple. This showed how strong Xavier’s faith was especially since during his time the relationship between the people and the Church was filled with distrust because of the Protestant Reformation and Catholic Reformation. This painting shows to the people what the Catholic Church should be doing in the first place. The artist really captured the manifestation of Francis Xavier, he portrayed him like a bridge between the people and God which is shown by how you can see at the top of the painting angels watching what is happening below and listening to what Xavier was preaching to the people. He was reconnecting the relationship between the two parties. The painting also has great detail in capturing the body movement and facial expression that the people, the angels, and Xavier should have.
