《米其林指南》一向只用簡短的兩三行文字發表對餐廳的評價。除此之外，《米其林指南》採用一系列符號作額外補充，當中最耀眼的符號，就是享譽全球的米其林星。

以米其林集團的品牌大使——米其林寶寶「必比登」為名，評選的是物有所值的美食。

最初，獲得必比登推介的餐廳會有一個紅色的「R」標誌，代表在這些餐廳能以一定價位以下，吃到優質的三道料理（在臺北與臺中為 1,000 台幣以內、大部分歐洲城市是 €36 歐元以內、美國城市 是 $40 美金以內，香港 $ 400 港幣以內，而東京是 ¥ 5,000 日圓以內）

1997 年，「必比登推介」符號——米其林寶寶必比登舔嘴唇的形象——首次出現在《米其林指南》中。自那時起，「必比登」成為尋找超值餐飲體驗的一盞明燈。
