The early warning signs of a holocaust occurring are increased discrimination throughout Germany, and Anti-Jew laws. Also Hitlers Mein Kampf described the extermination of Jews, which he wrote in jail before he came into power.
America and the allies had access to critical information that would make it clear discrimination against Jews would continue to rise. But the allies didn't think a mass murder campaign on this level was possible. We sympathized with the Jews, but liberation wasn't a national priority until significant damage had already been done.

Most allied nations ignored the evidence of Hitlers plans to ´exterminate the European Jewry´. Great Britain had access to information about the Nazi actions and policies yet there was very little protest from them. Some Jewish and non-Jewish individuals and groups within Britain took part in campaigns against the Nazi policies and others sought to provide refuge for victims of Nazi Oppression. An extreme, but significant, minority within Great Britain actually supported the Nazis. A lot of Allied nations prioritized military victory over humanitarian considerations during World War II. When reports concerning the murders of Jews started to surface, the United States assumed the problem would be solved with the defeat of Nazi Germany. Which of course didn't happen. The American Press also had printed articles detailing the mistreatment of Jews in Nazi Germany but still The United States refused to give temporary refuge to Jews fleeing Europe. The New York Times also had articles that demonstrated the false perceptions that were spread by the Allied Nations about the Holocaust.

Adolf Hitler became chancellor in 1933. This is the year that Hitler gained power and began his changes in Germany. Hitler and many other leaders controlled the nation and authorized the new laws. These consisted of marriages between Jews and Germans being forbidden, Jews were not allowed to be employed, and they were to be imprisoned and punished if they broke these laws. Nazis killed millions of people in the Holocaust. Primarily Jews, but also anyone that disobeyed, disabled, and the elderly. On October 6th 1945, the leading Nazi officials were indicted for war crimes, a total of 22. A few of the people that were tried were Hitler's assistant (Martin Bormann), Commander of German navy (Karl Doenitz), minister of the interior (Wilhelm Frick) and more. Each of the four nations had their own judge, prosecutor, lawyers, researchers and assistants at the trials. The chief prosecutor of the U.S. was Robert H. Jackson. All together they presented different counts, such as conspiracy to wage aggressive war, crimes against peace, and war crimes/crimes against the humanity. The primary evidence used in these trials were the Nazi's own detailed records. Allied forces gathered millions of documents and evidence from the last days of the war in 1945. Some of the criminals received death sentences, while others received 60-70 years in prison. More and more criminals were slowly brought to trial, getting what they deserve.

on May 13, 1939 a luxury cruise liner called the USS St. Louis picked up more than 900 Jews and fled Germany. Cuba was a temporary spot they were going to have the Jews stay and wait for their American visas to be passed. On May 27 they reached the coast of Havana. it came very clear that they the ship was not going to be able to dock and no one was aloud to leave. For seven days they tried to persuade the Cuban officials to let them in the country. In fact, the Cubans had already decided to revoke all but a handful of the visas. The captain decided to take the St Louis towards the Florida coast, but when they got there the US authorities also refused the right to dock, despite direct appeal FDR. By early June, they had no option but to turn the boat back towards Europe.

One soldier recounts the liberation of Auschwitz, “It was hard to watch them. Said from a troop "From where we were, we could see the desperate plight of the inmates." The gutters, too, were filled with dead bodies. Mass graves were dug to hold up to 5,000 corpses at a time. The former army guards from the SS were deliberately made to use their bare hands to bury the prisoners, many of whom had died of contagious diseases.
