This definitely gets old when you don't feel like you're actively engaging the students. This is why teachers need to spend less time on making the perfect lesson, but getting to know the students. Teachers need to emerge their selves into the students culture. Teachers need to connect the curriculum to their students real life experiences. This will make the students more engaged in the lessons. All the long hours will be spent learning and forming to the students.
