One things I have learned in this class that there's primary and secondary information when it comes to researching topics and history. How that change my prospective on the present and future is that past and present history can be twisted into false information making it hard to discover the truth.

I learned more about strikes, a topic I was previously unfamiliar with. I had no idea that employees could strike against a workplace that isn't treating them fairly, and that it involves significant planning and multiple steps. It's weird that this topic wasn't discussed in my previous classes, as it seems essential to understand, especially before reaching the legal working age.

That back then airlines had regulations and policies for the female flight attendants that said that the women had to retire by their early 30s.
Before finding this out i had never really thought much into what being a flight attendant was like let alone their history (it was always just a random job and they were always just there).
After learning this information ive grown to have more respect and admiration for them with how resilient and brave they actually are.

In class, I learned about how exploitive and terrible workplaces can get, not just heavy labor ones, but in general. I never thought of workplaces to be so exploitive, I always thought of it as just a simple way people support themselves, and nothing further, thinking they actually liked their jobs. Now, when I look at other jobs, like in the real world, I try figure out in what ways is it predatory on employees, how it needs change.

What I learned in class was to read the introduction and the conclusion if we have to read something big, as well transition words. For my research topic i learned more about radium girls that i didnt know before like it happening in CT. Reading it after made me realize the hardships women had to face because they were women in the work force try to change dangerous work conditions. For example they were neglected.

The best thing I learned this year was about distinguishing between primary and secondary sources as well as learning about class consciousness. Before learning I would constantly be consumed by rabbit holes that were lengthy, not useful, and out of touch. Now that I’ve learned it’s led me to be able to be more direct with my research and it has helped me out in the long run

I would say from my research topic, i never thought about movements in the past as often as i do now since the start of the research process. I now see how much process and time it goes into for strikes/protests/to have people united. What caught my attention would be when we would read articles of workers doing strikes at their workplace for poor treatment and i realized how important it is to be united in the workplace or have someone that you know would have your back in situations like that.

Something i learned a little more about from this class was the power workers have when they try and build an organized union of the working class and go after what they want as a whole. I used to think like as the working class the employers have majority of the power over their employees and the most workers had was to quit. As we reviewed content that got into organizing and unions it became a lot more clear the power employees have because as much as we need hours and wages they need their workers who produce for consumers.

One thing that i have learned in this class is about the different strikes throughout history and the consequences people faced. For example, when workers were on strike in the 1800 people would get killed for fighting what they thought was right. But nowadays there's not as many consequences that are that serious.

Something that I've learned about in this class and during my research is the Flint sit-down strikes. When we first learned about it, I only thought of it as a bad thing that was happening to a town of people that needed those jobs and how they fought back. Now, I see it as something that not only changed the lives of the people of Flint, but people across the U.S. with GM jobs and in other unions.

Something I learned in class is the specific role of labor unions and how they organize in order to make positive change within the workplace. Initially, I was only aware that labor unions strike when treated unfairly, but now I know that in order for a successful outcome of labor unions there must be strategic planning and organization in order to build solidarity. Now knowing that the level of solidarity is most crucial to it's success, I can see building a strong level of solidarity in present can be hard since employers and even now the government is trying to tear unions downs and it feels as if were going back in history and people may be losing hope.

Something I've learned in this class is just how important workplace health and safety really is, especially for workers. taking this class its hugely focused on the workplace and I had never thought before about how exploited workplaces really are and how some jobs can be really dangerous to do because there are hardly any regulations to keep workers safe and unharmed. I now understand that workplaces are more complicated than I had thought before and there is more to workplace health and safety.
