*Story 2: Love and Loss (5‘30‘‘)

[상황] My second story is about love and loss. I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents’ garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees.

[위기] We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating. I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down — that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

[극복]I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world’s first computer animated feature film(장편 영화), Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together. I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.

[교훈]Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

Do you think studying while listening to songs is not effective? Is that right?

Depending on the music, depending on the personality, the learning effect varies.

There are advantages and disadvantages when listening to a song.

According to experts, music helps you stay immersed by creating a study atmosphere, especially when working repetitively or simply. Favorite music can also calm your mood, but it can also distract you and disrupt your study of language-focused subjects.

Learning effects can also vary depending on music. According to an experiment conducted by Cardiff Metropolitan University in the U.K., 61% of the respondents answered correctly in a quiet environment, 55% of the respondents without lyrics, 38% of the respondents with unfavorable lyrics, and 37% of the respondents with preferred lyrics. The group who studied without music performed the best, and music with lyrics negatively affected learning.

In addition, the learning effect may vary depending on personality. According to the recent Baruch New York City University and Rutgers University in the United States, a loud personality can lower the performance effect of music in any situations and a calm personality can lower the performance effect in difficult cognitive performance, but in most other situations, it has increased the performance effect.

The learning effect of music varies from person to person. Find a way to study that suits you.

The day before the test is not a time to build knowledge, but a time to organize knowledge.Instead of increasing the amount of study than usual, it is recommended to study while resting for about 4-6 hours to maintain the best condition.

Hello, today I’d like to explain to you how taking medication on an empty stomach can burden the liver. Before I begin, do you happen to know about the functions of the liver?

Generally, when we eat food, it travels through the mouth and esophagus to the liver, where it is broken down for digestion as part of the digestive system. For those who want a more detailed explanation, I’ll now go into depth about the liver.

First, the liver is located in the abdomen specifically, in the upper right quadrant, just below the diaphragm. It is the largest and most complex organ in the body. The liver is divided into four lobes: the right lobe, left lobe, quadrate lobe, and caudate lobe. Now that we know its location, let’s discuss its functions. The liver performs detoxification, blood circulation management, metabolic control, and more. Today, I’ll focus on explaining these key roles.

I’ll explain two major metabolic functions: Carbohydrate Metabolism: The liver converts glycogen into glucose when needed to maintain blood sugar levels and generate bioenergy.

Protein Metabolism: The liver produces albumin and clotting factors, stores nutrients (such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and vitamins) absorbed through the intestines, and produces bile acids to help digest fats, which are then released into the duodenum.

The liver normally holds about 450ml of blood (almost 10% of the body’s total blood volume) in the hepatic veins and portal sinusoids. When pressure in the right atrium increases, the liver expands and can store an additional 0.5~1L of blood, releasing it when necessary.

The liver metabolizes and breaks down various drugs, playing a key role in detoxifying the body. However, many people don’t realize this and sometimes take medication on an empty stomach without thinking. Have you ever experienced stomach pain after doing so? I have. Why does this happen?

Many drugs contain toxins. If the liver cannot process them properly, the drugs can turn into toxic substances, damaging liver cells and causing inflammation or disease. The chemical transformation of toxins is primarily driven by an enzyme called cytochrome P450 (CYP) in liver cells. This enzyme oxidizes or reduces toxins (changing their chemical structure), making them more reactive and sometimes even more toxic before converting them into water soluble forms for excretion through urine (kidneys) or bile (liver).

Overconsumption of medications, including health supplements, can lead to the accumulation of toxic metabolites like NAPQI, which damages the liver. Even common painkillers like Tylenol (acetaminophen), which people take for headaches, contain toxins. If taken on an empty stomach, instead of relieving your headache, it may cause stomach pain instead.

Final Takeaway

The key lesson today is: Never take medication on an empty stomach. There are no benefits only harmful effects. Thank you!

Would you like any modifications or additional details in the English version?

Did you know that song lyrics often contain hidden meanings? In fact, people have long tried to express meanings indirectly through music. This tradition has been passed down to the present day in styles such as the Chungcheongdo way and the Kyoto way of speaking.

To understand these styles, it’s important to explore the historical and cultural backgrounds behind them. Both were shaped by factors like social status and religion. Chungcheongdo has been deeply influenced by Confucianism for a long time, while Kyoto was Japan’s capital for over a thousand years.

The development of these indirect ways of speaking has also been reflected in song lyrics. Thanks to this, I now feel I can better appreciate songs with meaningful lyrics, like Lee Sun Hee’s Destiny and IU’s My Sea.

Then let's look at the pros and cons of running. First, it helps reduce disease activity, strengthen endurance, build patience, confidence, and diet. The disadvantages are the risk of injury, environmental impact, and space constraints Lastly, I recommend running. Why?
Because light shows wave behaviors, like reflection, refraction, interference, and diffraction.

In 1801, a scientist named Thomas Young did a famous experiment called the double-slit experiment.
He shined light through two small slits.
On the screen, he saw bright and dark patterns we call this an interference pattern.
This pattern happens when waves overlap. So, this showed that light acts like a wave.

But later, in the early 1900s, something strange happened.
A scientist named Albert Einstein studied the photoelectric effect.
When light hits metal, sometimes it knocks out electrons.
Einstein said this happens because light also behaves like tiny particles, called photons.
Each photon carries a small amount of energy.

So, is light a wave or a particle?

The answer is… both. Light behaves like a wave in some situations, and like a particle in others.
We call this wave-particle duality.

This idea changed science a lot.
It helped us create new technology like lasers, solar panels, and semiconductors.

In short, light is not just a simple thing. It’s both a wave and a particle and that’s what makes it so amazing.

Are you interested in baseball but the rules are difficult?

Let me help you. Baseball is played by many rules.

There are many different positions in baseball.

Fielders are divided into infielders and outfielders based on the square-shaped infield.

The infielders are third baseman, shortstop, second baseman, and first baseman in order from left, and the shortstop is positioned between third and second base, and the second baseman is positioned between second and first base. Outfielders are leftfielder, centerfielder, and right fielder from the left. A pitcher is a player who throws a ball home from the center of the infield and is called the flower of baseball.

A catcher is a player who catches a pitcher's ball at home and plays the most important role in baseball.

Have you ever heard of the terms ball or strike in baseball?

The ball and strike are determined by the imaginary square above the home.

If the pitcher passes the ball through the square or the batter swings the bat, it's a strike, and if it doesn't pass the ball through the square, it's a ball.

If there are three strikes, there is one out, and if there are three outs, the offense and defense is replaced.

How will the batter get on base?

There are ways to get on base: hits, home runs, base on balls and hit by pitch. A hit is when a batter hits a ball and the ball hits the ground, and the batter arrives at the base faster than the ball. A home run is also a type of hit, which means a ball crosses the fence of the stadium. Depending on the number of runners on the base, the score earned by the home run will vary. The Base on balls means four balls, and the hit by pitch refers to when a batter is hit by a pitcher's pitch. At this time, the batter can go to first base.

Baseball looks difficult, but if you know the rules, you can enjoy watching it.

I hope this presentation will make you more interested in baseball.

There is a lot of music that helps us fall asleep even if we go to YouTube right away. Does this work? From the bottom line, it depends on the type of music. Fast-tempo music increases energy and stimulates excitement, and slow-tempo music helps you sleep. For this reason, listening to slow-tempo music helps you sleep well. And in the case of fast-tempo music, if you continue to listen to music while sleeping, you may be more likely to suffer from sleep disorders. If you keep listening to a certain song, you may not be able to sleep well because the song keeps coming up in your head. If you are a person who does not sleep well and want to sleep well with the help of music, it will be of great help if you sleep while listening to slow-tempo music rather than fast-tempo music.

Today, I’d like to start with a situation that many of us might find familiar. Imagine you’ve been in a relationship for a long time. These days, you’re not happy anymore—you argue often, and the emotional connection has faded.
What would you do in this situation?

Even though you know the relationship is no longer good for either of you, you might still hesitate to end it. Why? Because you’ve already invested so much time, money, and emotion. It feels like all of that would go to waste if you walk away now.

This is a classic example of what economics calls the “sunk cost fallacy.”
A sunk cost is something you've already spent—whether it's money, time, or effort—and you can't get it back. Economically speaking, we are taught that sunk costs should not influence future decisions.
Why? Because they’re gone. We can’t change the past. What we can do is make a better choice for our present and future.

But in reality, we don’t always think rationally. Our emotions take over, and we hold on to things just because we’ve already spent so much on them—even if they’re no longer good for us.

There was even a Korean article that talked about this. It explained that many people stay in unhappy relationships because they feel they’ve come too far to quit. The longer the relationship, the harder it becomes to let go. The emotional and psychological barriers grow over time.

As a result, we often waste even more time and energy—just because we couldn’t let go sooner.

Personally, I believe that the time ahead of us is more valuable than the time that’s already gone.
And I hope we can all learn to see that giving up isn’t always a failure—sometimes, it’s the smartest choice for a better, happier future.

Thank you.

We live with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. From smartphone voice assistants to recommendation algorithms to self-driving cars, AI is everywhere in our daily lives, and we can see that these technologies will be much more advanced in the future and have a deeper impact on our lives. In this article, let's look at the difference between current AI technology and future technologies, and see how changes will affect the world of work today.
First, let's first look at technologies that will happen in the future.

The current AI technology is developing around functions specialized in specific areas such as voice recognition, image analysis, and autonomous driving. However, it is predicted that 'Universal Artificial Intelligence (AGI)', which enables more comprehensive and creative thinking, will emerge in the future. This technology will be used beyond simple data analysis to have a level of thinking, learning, and problem-solving skills similar to that of humans, and will be used as a partner to cooperate with people in various fields such as education, medical care, and art. It is also expected that emotional artificial intelligence, which can understand and empathize with emotions, will be developed, attracting attention as a technology that can share deeper communication with people.
While advances in AI technology can replace some jobs, new jobs are born. For example, AI is likely to be replaced by data input sources or simple accounting jobs that perform repetitive and standardized tasks, while new occupations such as AI engineers designing and training AI, AI ethics experts, and communication designers coordinating human-AI cooperation will gradually increase. Eventually, the ability to understand and utilize technology will be an important competitive edge in the future, and jobs that require human creativity and sensitivity will be highly valued.
As such, AI technology is constantly developing, and it will bring about major changes in our lives and society in the future. In the future, artificial intelligence with much more sophisticated and human-like abilities will emerge, and there will be jobs that disappear accordingly, but new opportunities will also emerge. The important thing is that rather than being afraid of these changes, it would be better to develop the ability to coexist and cooperate with AI. I think we can create a better future by understanding and utilizing AI correctly.

There may have been times when you questioned your math skills while solving problems. From now on, I will introduce ways to improve your mathematical abilities. This involves understanding three key areas: first, problem-solving strategies; second, understanding difficult concepts; and third, improving calculation skills.

To approach a problem, the first step is to make a plan. This plan should be based on investigation, observation, and awareness. Through investigation and observation, you identify what you do know. Through awareness, you recognize what you don't know and what you need to find. If you can connect what you know with what you don’t know through a clear plan, you've already approached 99% of the problem.

The second element is understanding difficult concepts, which is a necessary preparation for solving problems. Often, students find it hard to understand even after reading explanations because they lack conceptual knowledge. Once you realize that you lack certain concepts, you should open a textbook or reference book to analyze exactly where you're getting stuck. There are three typical areas of difficulty: understanding a calculation or derivation process, understanding a definition, or grasping the meaning and significance of a concept. Again, metacognition—the ability to distinguish between what you know and don’t know—plays a key role. Once you’ve identified what you don’t understand, the next steps become easier.

The third aspect is improving calculation skills. Many people doubt their math ability because they run out of time or make frequent calculation errors. Here, we need to strengthen both conscious and unconscious calculation skills. Conscious calculation involves repeatedly thinking through each step in your head until you can confidently explain the process to yourself.

Unconscious calculation is the intuitive ability to calculate accurately and quickly, which develops after enough practice with conscious calculation. Once you've trained in both, you’ll no longer miss problems just because of time constraints. But it's crucial to remember: during both conscious and unconscious calculations, you must stay fully focused. You might think, “Who solves math problems without focusing?”—but even focus itself must be conscious. Only through deliberate awareness can you reduce errors.

In summary, improving your math skills is about mastering problem-solving strategies, deeply understanding concepts, and training your calculation abilities through conscious effort and continuous focus.

But both men and women can be great nurses.

Male nurses often face bias. Some people ask, “Why didn’t you become a doctor?” or think men are not as gentle or kind. This is unfair. Female nurses also face limits, like being overlooked for leadership roles.

To break these stereotypes, we need more education and more support for gender diversity in healthcare.

Nursing is not about gender it’s about skills and compassion.

How do you feel when you see the color green?
Most people would say they feel calm or at ease. This simple reaction shows us that colors can have a powerful influence on our emotions, and that is exactly what we are going to explore.

Colors can trigger or evoke certain emotional responses. The way we interpret colors often depends on our cultural background and personal experiences. For example, red may stimulate feelings of passion, excitement, or even anger. Green, as mentioned earlier, tends to evoke calmness, stability, and a sense of nature. Blue often brings to mind rationality, clarity, and ambition.

The saturation and brightness of a color also play key roles in how we feel.
Highly saturated colors can feel energetic, exciting, and stimulating, while less saturated tones may come across as calm, serious, or even somber. Bright colors tend to feel cheerful and uplifting, while darker tones feel heavier but more grounded and secure.

Understanding these effects can be especially useful when designing interior spaces. Choosing the right colors for walls, lighting, and furniture can help create a desired emotional atmosphere. For instance, using a dark green color in a hospital waiting room can help promote feelings of peace and reassurance.

In the end, colors can energize us, calm us, and shape how we experience our surroundings. By thoughtfully applying these effects to our environment, we can create more balanced and emotionally supportive spaces. It is not just about seeing color, it is about feeling it.

The components of plastic in this transformation process affect seawater itself, affecting marine life, and when the affected seafood comes to our table and we intake it,Studies have shown that the microplastics we ingest do not come out of the body and even affect the mother's fetus,In the past, it was said that one credit card a month was eaten. But now we eat more than 2.5 cards a month. We humans get 15.2 percent of our protein from the ocean, which is absolutely not a small number, and more than 3 billion people depend on seafood as their main source of protein, and this number continues to grow,Hasn't the idea of seafood changed even now.

Conversation is essential in human relationships, but not all conversations have a positive effect. To build better relationships, proactive communication, in other words, effective conversation skills, are crucial.

Everyday conversation is not just about exchanging words; it's a process of sharing thoughts and emotions and building trust. How we speak and the attitude we take when listening can significantly shape the direction of a relationship.

In particular, showing respect to the other person is key to smooth communication. The most important attitude in conversation is listening. True communication begins when we make eye contact, nod, and respond in a way that shows we're engaged.

Ultimately, good conversation stems from a mindset of respect, consideration, and sincerity. These qualities help create deep trust and strong connections in any relationship.

So today, try to listen a little more closely and speak with warmth in your conversations with those around you.

That may be the first step toward better understanding and stronger relationships.

What do you think is the most captivating skill in basketball? Dunking? Three-point shooting? Everyone has a different opinion, but I believe the most impressive move is the fadeaway—a skill where players create space after contact. And at the pinnacle of this move stands the basketball god himself: Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan was born in 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, as the fourth of five children and the third son. While his older brothers spent their time working part-time jobs, young Jordan went to the playgrounds and courts, playing basketball and baseball, dreaming of becoming an athlete. However, his parents were worried about his strong focus on sports.

He later entered Laney High School, but at just 178 cm (5'10"), he was considered too short to be a basketball starter. His height was one reason, but another was his love for baseball—he treated basketball more like a hobby. When he was cut from the starting lineup, it crushed his pride. Determined, he gave up baseball and began to fully commit to basketball.

Almost as if fate stepped in, Jordan grew 15 cm (around 6 inches) and reached 193 cm (6'4"). His new height gave him an edge, and his pride-fueled motivation started to shine. He became a top scorer in various tournaments, and eventually earned a spot at a university where he was named College Player of the Year.

Jordan was selected third overall in the NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. Despite being the best college player, he was not picked first or second because he was a guard, not a center. At the time, teams preferred taller, more physical players. Jordan didn’t hide his disappointment—his face showed a fire burning for revenge.

In the NBA, Jordan showed phenomenal individual performances, but early on, he couldn’t win a championship. The powerful Los Angeles Lakers, led by Magic Johnson, created what became known as the "Jordan Rules"—a defensive strategy where three or more defenders would surround him the moment he touched the ball, making it nearly impossible for him to break through. Time and again, Jordan was stopped short of the championship because of it.

But he never gave up. After each season, while others rested, Jordan stayed behind and trained even harder. Seeing his dedication, his teammates followed his lead. Together, they worked on improving their weaknesses—especially physical conditioning—and pushed themselves with one common goal: to win.

In the next Finals, Jordan exploded from the start. In Game 1, despite facing the Jordan Rules, he played 44 minutes and recorded 13 points, 1 assist, and 11 rebounds, helping secure a crucial win. Game 2 went into overtime and ended in a tough loss, tying the series at 1-1.

Then came the final and deciding game. Jordan played 44 minutes again and put on a legendary performance: 33 points, 9 assists, and 15 rebounds. He broke through the Jordan Rules, overcame Magic Johnson’s defense, and finally led the Bulls to their long-awaited NBA championship.

After the game, Jordan famously said:

"Winning isn’t just about beating others; it’s about conquering yourself."

He went on to defend the title for over three years before retiring, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest legends in NBA history.

How much does politics affect your life? It might be a prevalent opinion that politics has no effect or that people are simply not interested in it. However, politics profoundly impacts our lives in countless ways. For example, political decisions made by government officials influence everything from education to healthcare, and politicians make decisions concerning schools, transportation, work, and benefits. Let's take the field of education as an initial example. The Minister of Education, Lee Ju-ho, recently announced a new education reform plan. This revision negatively impacted many students preparing for college entrance exams. While one might assume political influence is confined to the education sector, this is absolutely not the case. Beyond the educational examples mentioned, during the Participatory Government(Roh Moo hyun Government) era, many low-income individuals benefited greatly from the medical assistance program championed by Ryu Si-min, who was the Minister of Health and Welfare at the time. More recently, there has been the controversial medical reform. This reform concluded with an increase in the number of medical school students. Regarding this, Professor Lee Guk-jong commented that simply increasing the number of medical students does not necessarily equate to an increase in essential doctors, and it could make one-on-one mentoring classes more challenging.

As illustrated by the examples above, politics has innumerable effects on our daily lives. Therefore, it is important to take an interest in international politics and cultivate a willingness to participate in the political process.

Faker and Esports: Why He Became a Symbol and His Impact

Originally, I wasn't very interested in gaming tournaments. But after watching Faker win the 2023 League of Legends World Championship and witnessing the electrifying atmosphere shared by fans, I became truly captivated by esports.

Faker is a professional League of Legends player currently playing for T1. His legendary career includes five World Championship titles, two Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) victories, ten LCK championships, and a gold medal from the Asian Games. Even in 2024, he continued to demonstrate incredible focus under pressure, proving that he remains one of the best players in the world.

What makes Faker a symbol of esports is not only his skill but also his character. One well-known story involves him pausing his practice to help a late-arriving journalist get a good photo, pretending to be mid-game. Acts like these, along with his consistency, have earned him respect not just in esports but across the entire sports world.

Faker has also had a major impact on the esports industry as a whole. If SlayerS_BoxeR (Lim Yo-hwan) opened the door for Korean esports, Faker took it global. Esports now includes more tournaments, expanded broadcasting, advertising, merchandise, and even appearances in international events like the Asian Games.

Just as football has Messi and Ronaldo, esports has Faker. His legend is far from over, and he will continue to make history with fans around the world.

Hello everyone, my name is Seongwon Yoon.

Do you think AI can replace medical professionals? With the advancement of AI and robotics, some predict that even doctors and nurses could be replaced by machines in the future. Today, I would like to explore why AI could replace some medical roles and how AI and medical professionals can work together to improve healthcare.

First, one of the main reasons AI might replace medical professionals is its growing ability to diagnose illnesses more accurately than humans. In fact, there are AI systems that diagnose brain disorders more precisely than some specialists and professors. Additionally, many hospitals are already using surgical robots that can perform operations with greater precision and delicacy than the human hand.

However, if medical professionals and AI work together, we could achieve even higher levels of medical technology and care. For example, AI could analyze a patient's condition, and then doctors could review the AI's results and make the final diagnosis based on their clinical experience. This would allow for faster and more accurate treatment.

Moreover, most people do not want to be cared for by robots that lack emotion. This is one reason why it's unlikely that nurses will be replaced by machines. If AI handles repetitive administrative tasks such as writing medical records, scheduling, and managing insurance claims, healthcare staff could focus more on patient care—just like nurses do. This shift would likely improve both patient satisfaction and recovery speed.

In conclusion, instead of completely replacing humans, if we combine AI with human experience and emotional intelligence, we can reach a higher standard of medical care. This will lead to fewer illnesses and deaths.

Thank you for listening.

"The acceleration of technological progress is approaching a point where human life will be irreversibly transformed." These were the prophetic words of John von Neumann, known as the father of the computer, in the 1950s. That point he spoke of - the 'Technological Singularity' - is now right before us.

Currently, the AI we use is 'Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)', which shows exceptional performance only in specific fields. For example, computers exist, and all current artificial intelligence falls under narrow AI.

The next stage is 'Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)', which implements human intelligence through computer information processing capabilities. At this stage, artificial intelligence can form consciousness.

The final stage is 'Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)', which surpasses the limits of human intelligence in every aspect.

The technological singularity occurs at the moment when AGI transitions to ASI. When AGI begins to improve itself, an 'intelligence explosion' occurs where increasingly smarter AI continues to enhance itself. This could surpass thousands of years of human development in just a few hours.

The technological singularity is not a choice, but an inevitability. What matters is not fearing it, but preparing and responding in ways that benefit humanity. Thank you.

Topic: Laughter Has a Positive Power

Introduction
Are you happy these days? If so, why?
Since entering high school, I’ve found it hard to say that I’ve truly lived a happy life. Day after day passed without anything particularly enjoyable, and I found little reason to laugh.

Then one day, a thought suddenly came to me:
“What if I just decide to find things fun?”
No matter what I was doing, I tried to think of it as fun and forced myself to laugh. Surprisingly, this simple shift had a powerful effect—my everyday life began to feel brighter and lighter.

So today, I want to talk about the power of laughter.
What is it about laughter that makes it such a powerful force?

Body
First, laughter has a positive social impact.
According to a study by Professor Roh-Hyun Koo at Konyang University titled “The Effect of Laughter Therapy on Reducing Depression and Stress in Adolescents”, a group of middle school students who participated in a one-month laughter program (eight hours total) showed significantly reduced stress in their relationships with family and friends compared to a control group. In other words, laughter can help improve our interpersonal relationships.

Second, laughter plays a beneficial role in our mental well-being.
A study by Professor Jang-Won Kim at CHA University found that even just making a smiling facial expression—without genuinely feeling happy—can reduce stress. That’s because our brains can be tricked by the facial muscles into thinking we’re actually happy.
So even a forced smile can eventually lead to real emotional relief.

Lastly, laughter helps us live healthier lives.
It reduces stress, promotes positive thinking, and even helps prevent depression. Laughter also boosts self-confidence and self-esteem.
Isn’t it amazing that all of this can be achieved just by laughing?

Conclusion
As we've seen, laughter brings positive effects both socially and mentally, improving our overall quality of life.
It doesn’t require any special tools, time, or place. So really, there’s no reason not to laugh.

Shall we all try laughing for five seconds right now? (Haha!)
That’s all. Thank you.

Opening

Hello everyone, my name is Chisun, and I’ll be giving today’s presentation.

When you hear the word war, what comes to mind? (Wait for a few responses from the audience.)

Most people tend to think about the horrors of war—its brutality, destruction, and the suffering it brings.

However, approaching war from other perspectives, such as economic or cultural viewpoints, can offer us a new understanding of why wars occur and, more importantly, why they must be avoided.

So in today’s presentation, I will talk about “The Economic Impact of the Russia-Ukraine War on the Involved Countries and the World.”

Through this discussion, I hope to provide you with a new perspective on war and help us grow together as responsible global citizens.

Body

1. Economic Impact on Daily Life in the Warring Countries

Let’s begin by examining the economic effects of war on the everyday lives of citizens in the involved countries.

One of the most visible changes before and after war is the rise in the prices of essential goods.

But why does this happen? The reason is quite simple.

During war, a large number of people—especially men involved in food production—are drafted into military service.

As a result, the labor force for producing daily necessities decreases.

Additionally, it becomes harder to import raw materials due to the conflict, which further drives up prices.

According to BBC News, inflation in Russia surged by over 14% in 2022 as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war.

As we can see, war has a direct and significant economic impact on daily life through inflation and shortages.

2. National Economic Changes: Taxes and Defense Spending

Next, let’s look at the broader economic effects on a national level, especially in terms of taxation and defense budgets.

According to an article in JoongAng Ilbo, both Russia and Ukraine have seen a dramatic increase in their defense spending.

Why does this happen?

As I mentioned earlier, war requires a vast amount of resources and materials.

This means the government needs more money, which naturally leads to higher taxes and increased national spending.

The Russia-Ukraine war is a clear example of how warfare causes large-scale economic shifts within nations.

3. Economic Impact on the Global Community

Lastly, let’s explore the economic consequences of the war on the international community.

The Russia-Ukraine war has had a broad impact across several areas:

First, the war created a global security crisis, shaking international stability and causing economic damage to many countries.

Second, the production and trade of military supplies have significantly increased.

Weapons are consumables, and war demands a massive quantity of them, which boosts military industries.

Third, there has been a notable rise in energy prices, especially for oil and natural gas.

Modern warfare relies heavily on machines, which require large amounts of fuel. As a result, the prices of diesel and natural gas have surged.

According to one academic paper, Europe used to depend on Russia for 25% of its natural resources and 43% of its natural gas.

Due to the war, Europe has been forced to alter its import routes and rethink its energy strategy.

Clearly, the Russia-Ukraine war has had economic consequences not only for the countries involved but for the entire world.

Conclusion

In today’s presentation, we looked at the economic impact of the Russia-Ukraine war from three different perspectives:

individual daily life, national economy, and the global community.

Exploring war from these new angles has been eye-opening for me, and I hope it has helped you realize that the consequences of war extend far beyond the borders of the countries involved.

Let us all continue to look at war through multiple lenses, recognize its negative consequences, and strive to become global citizens who contribute to peace.

Have you watched a Disney movie recently? Probably not, or very few. And this isn’t just happening to us. It’s a global trend. So why has Disney, once a brilliant icon of entertainment, fallen into decline?

The first reason is financial trouble caused by excessive business expansion. Since its acquisition of Marvel in 2009, Disney began acquiring numerous companies and studios. During this expansion, some of the acquisitions were overly aggressive or poorly judged, leading to significant financial strain. To cover the resulting deficits, Disney initiated large-scale restructuring, which led to the departure of many talented employees. One notable example is the major restructuring that took place after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.

The second reason is the lack of proper management over its subsidiaries, also stemming from overexpansion. As the company grew too large, it became harder to maintain consistent quality in franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. The decline in quality led to reduced investment, which in turn made it difficult to produce high-quality content — creating a vicious cycle.

The third reason is the overemphasis on political correctness (PC). Of course, political correctness isn’t inherently bad. But in recent years, Disney has increasingly prioritized PC messaging — often at the expense of the original storylines or themes. This shift has sparked backlash from audiences. For instance, the live-action remakes of The Little Mermaid and Snow White each recorded financial losses exceeding 100 billion KRW (roughly 100 million USD).

Against this backdrop, Disney has continued to suffer from the recent restructuring of Marvel Studios. As someone who has always loved Disney, I truly hope the company can overcome these issues and return to its former glory.

“The acceleration of technological progress is approaching a point where human life will be irreversibly transformed.” These were the prophetic words of John von Neumann, known as the father of the computer, in the 1950s. That point he spoke of - the ‘Technological Singularity’ - is now right before us.

Currently, the AI we use is ‘Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)’, which shows exceptional performance only in specific fields. It cannot make independent judgments or engage in creative thinking. For example, computers exist, and all current artificial intelligence falls under narrow AI.

The next stage is ‘Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)’, which implements human intelligence through computer information processing capabilities and possesses performance abilities across all intellectual domains. At this stage, artificial intelligence can form consciousness.

The final stage is ‘Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)’, which surpasses the limits of human intelligence in every aspect.

The technological singularity occurs at the moment when AGI transitions to ASI. When AGI begins to improve itself, an ‘intelligence explosion’ occurs where increasingly smarter AI continues to enhance itself. This could surpass thousands of years of human development in just a few hours.

The technological singularity is not a choice, but an inevitability. What matters is not fearing it, but preparing and responding in ways that benefit humanity. Thank you.

Is the Semester System Truly a Good Policy?

The semester system was introduced with the goal of improving education, but it can cause several problems in certain situations. Notably, issues such as unfairness in grade achievement depending on course selection, disadvantages in the college entrance exam, and the increase in private education are major concerns.

First, it can be difficult to achieve high grades depending on the group of students taking the course in the same semester. Because the level of preparation and ability of students studying the subject in the same semester can vary greatly, this leads to significant differences in grades. For example, comparing chemistry and earth science at Gwangju High School, we see that a student who scored in the top 1% in chemistry last year dropped to a 3rd grade this year, while a student who was in the 3rd grade in earth science last year rose to the top grade. This shows that the differences in student groups by semester create unfairness in subject grading.

Second, the semester system may put students at a disadvantage in the college entrance exam (Suneung). While schools using the traditional yearly system cover the curriculum over a full year, the semester system requires students to learn all the content within half a year. Just like a hastily built tower is less stable than one built carefully from the ground up, students may struggle to deeply understand the material, resulting in a competitive disadvantage.

Third, the semester system can lead to an increase in private education. Because students need to learn a large amount of content in a short period, they tend to rely more on private tutoring. This creates a heavy financial burden on low-income families and ultimately leads to educational inequality. According to statistics from the Korean Statistical Office, although the number of students is decreasing, private education expenses continue to rise.

Moreover, from the teachers’ perspective, the semester system can cause differences in workload. Contrary to the original intent of the reform, students tend to choose subjects where it is easier to achieve high grades. This results in teachers of “easier” subjects having a heavier teaching load, while those teaching more difficult subjects have lighter schedules — yet both receive similar pay. This situation can cause feelings of unfairness among teachers.

In conclusion, due to differences in grading difficulty, disadvantages in the college entrance exam, and the potential rise in private education, the semester system is not an ideal policy. It requires further improvement and should be implemented only after thoroughly gathering and reflecting the opinions of students who are directly affected.

There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing.

Opening

Hello everyone, my name is Jiseon, and I’ll be giving today’s presentation.

Body

2. Economic Impact on the Global Community

Second, let’s explore the economic consequences of the war on the international community.

Let us all continue to look at war through multiple lenses like this presentation, recognize its negative consequences, and strive to become global citizens who contribute to peace.

The individuals I will introduce today are Elon Musk and Warren Buffett. After introducing them, I will explain the similarities between the two.

The first person I’ll introduce is Elon Musk. From a young age, Musk showed a deep interest in science and technology. He went on to found multiple companies and has worked to change human life and civilization through future-oriented technologies. He is an entrepreneur and visionary.

Next is Warren Buffett. From childhood, he displayed exceptional talent in investment and numbers. As a teenager, he began investing and running businesses. He later grew Berkshire Hathaway into a world-renowned investment company. Through his investment philosophy, he has generated steady returns for decades and is considered one of the most respected investors in the world.

The common traits between these two individuals are that they both prioritize long-term vision and sustainability over short-term profits, they both showed innate talent from a young age, and they make important decisions independently.

As you can see, successful people tend to share similar characteristics. Thank you.

Hey everyone, have you ever heard of the RICE treatment?

If you’ve ever gotten injured while playing sports or exercising, this is something really important to know. RICE is an acronym that stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. It’s a first-aid method used to treat minor injuries like sprains, strains, or bruises, and it's very effective in reducing pain and swelling.

Let’s break it down

Rest — As soon as you get hurt, you should stop all activity and rest the injured area. Continuing to move can make the injury worse or delay healing. So it’s best to take a break and let your body recover.

Ice — Applying ice to the injured area helps reduce swelling and numb the pain. Use an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) for 15 to 20 minutes every few hours during the first 1–2 days after the injury. Be careful not to apply ice directly to the skin.

Compression — Wrapping the injured area with an elastic bandage or sports tape helps limit swelling. It also provides support. Just make sure the wrap isn’t too tight, or it could block blood flow.

Elevation — Raise the injured area above the level of your heart whenever possible. This helps reduce swelling by allowing fluids to drain away from the area.

RICE is a simple and easy method, but it can make a big difference in your recovery. Of course, if the pain is severe or the injury doesn’t improve, it’s important to see a doctor. But for many minor sports injuries, RICE is the perfect first step toward healing.

So now you know — next time someone gets hurt during a game, you can say, “Don’t panic, let’s use RICE!
