So now we have reached the final chapter of the book. Ratliff gives us an analysis of his listening experience - his final thoughts. He fills that chapter like every chapter through out the book with plenty of examples. This worked in his favor. The amount of musical references he included enhanced the reception and processing of the information he was trying to convey. Even referencing academic works increased his credibility and made me, the reader, tune in a little more to his content to gain a fuller understanding of the concepts he was presenting like the use of "Slowness", "Transmission", "Sadness", and etc. I like that this book taught me to analyze the over all experience of music and not just what my ear can pick up and decipher. In addition the book also challenged my criteria for a good performance. he said in Chapter 7, " When we listen to virtuosi we are often waiting for fact and evidence."
