This is when Leo starts to accept his title as son of Hephaestus, and when he gains the courage to try out his fire powers for the first time since his mother's death.

Even this short snippet of text reveals a lot about Jason. The book begins with Jason having no memories of who he is, except that his name is Jason. As the book continues, the reader learns about Jason's identity as a son of the Roman version of Zeus: Jupiter. It's Jason's Roman heritage that plays a key part in the story, as he is surrounded by only children of the Greek gods.

This text reveals the bond Piper, Leo, and Jason hold. The book begins with Piper and Leo not knowing they are children of Greek gods, and with false memories of Jason. But as the story progresses, we see the dynamic trio start to form a real bond. This piece of text also reveals that even Leo and Piper don't know who Jason really is, but they're still willing to trust him.

He figured he hadn't accomplished anything except dying along with Piper, but he tucked in his arms and plummeted headfirst... The wind whistled in his ears, and Jason wondered what dying would feel like... Suddenly, the wind died down... Jason opened his eyes. They weren't falling. They were floating in midair, a hundred feet above the river."

This passage reveals many things all at once. First, it shows Jason's bravery and heroic instincts, and we can deduce that he has been a fighter before. It shows that Jason would do anything for Piper, despite not knowing her. And lastly, this passage shows the reader that Jason has powers over the wind. This is huge revelation, because we don't know that Jason is a son of Jupiter at this point in the story.
