In traditional Korean culture, boys are often privileged over girls. I saw this happen a lot when I visited my relatives as a child. My aunt would serve food to the my uncles and even my 8-year-old nephew before the women. When I talked to my parents about this, they agreed that this was an unfair and outdated tradition. I decided that I would teach my own children differently in the future.

Growth

Something that has led to my personal growth throughout my life and will continue to help me grow is school. I believe that every assignment given and every time I have to study teaches me to be self - disciplined, and it teaches me to do things I don't want to do. Not only at school but in other areas. For insistence, I always like to get things done as soon as possible, so if there is something I want to do or I am told to do I will push myself to do it.

Lacrosse

In my everyday life there are many things going on that can allow me to lose track of time easily, like homework, video games, and even social media. However during the warm weather there is something that makes me lose track of time that I am very passionate about. Lacrosse, is that thing for me. Practicing lacrosse allows me to enjoy myself with friends after school, it allows me to be more disciplined, and most importantly I could be hitting the ball for hours and it would only feel like a couple of minutes.

Obstacles

Throughout my life I have came across many obstacles however one in particular was preparing for my algebra ll regents. Throughout the entire school year I had been struggling with algebra, and when it came to taking the regents I had little to no hope for myself. However my parents got me a tutor and I devoted many hours to studying and reviewing topics. In the end I passed it feeling more relieved than ever. This taught me hard work really does pay off.

Identity

My main heritage is Italian. My heritage has allowed me and my family members to bond significantly over the years, even over the little things. For example when I was spending time at my Grandparents house this summer we looked at old documents and pictures from ancestors. This was a great thing to bond over and it was really interesting for all of us. It also made me realize how big of a role that heritage played in my life.

Throughout my entire life my parents have constantly done things that have made me very grateful. One of those things is always putting me and my sister first. For example, my parents will always devote time with us and do things on their days off even if it's not ideal for them. They make so many sacrifices for us that may seem little, but at the end of the day they mean to world to me.
