1. Some schools may think it is necessary if their students are doing well enough and some may not if their students are not doing well enough
2. Another reason is that it should be optional is that most students are ready for state testing by the end of the year
3. The last reason that it should be optional is that if students wants to further progress their education they may do so

No, standardized testing should be mandatory.
1. It permits students to see what they learned and allows them to track their progress.
2. It allows for a little academic competition, and who doesn't love that?
3. It guides teachers on what material they should teach their students.
4. Academic improvement can be made to areas with low scores.
5. Students will be prepared for higher academic success. (If they go to college).
6. If it was optional, those who don't take it most likely won't take their education seriously, and won't have a solid goal to improve and work towards.
7. (Extra argument point) People worry about stress and anxiety and low scores with these tests, and people look at it as failure if they get low scores. It's not. If people get low scores, work on improvement, just because one gets a low score it doesn't mean they should completely opt out of testing altogether. It is a great way to see progress and work on areas where people struggle.
