On page 58 we find out that Tally is not adventurous because she doesn't want to go on the adventure with Shay. This is contradicting because in the very beginning of the book, Tally goes on an adventure by herself to talk to Peris, which disproves her adventurous side. This also causes tension with Shay because all Tally wants to do is follow the rules, and stay in the city, the opposite of what Shay wants to do. "But what if they get mad enough that they won't make me pretty?" This is a quote from the book that shows what Tally's motivations really are. It shows that all she cares about is becoming pretty, and seeing Peris again. This contradicts with what Shay wants because Shay doesn't care if she is pretty or not. Shay just wants to have fun.

On page 123 we find out that Tally is the kind of person who likes to get around things. She agrees to tattle on Shay because she made a prior promise to Peris. This shows that Tally is actually a very unethical person. She made a promise to Peris before she even met Shay and her promise to keep Shay's secret came almost four months later. This is conflicting because Tally can side with her old friends or side with her new friend. A quote from the text says: "A shudder of exhaustion and relief went through her. She had it now, an excuse to break her vow. She'd made that promise to Peris, just as real, before she'd ever et Shay. She had known him for years, and Shay for only a few months . And Peris was right here, not out in some strange wilderness..." This quote shows exactly what Tally's thought process was when she decided to be unethical and find a way around her promise to Shay, without breaking it.

On page 169, we find out that Tally does indeed have an adventurous side. This is because she was sleeping and then she was awoken by a fire all around her. Then the rangers came and told her to come with them. Tally decided to trust these firemen but she was a little skeptical since, they were pretty. This actually conflicts with Tally's non- adventurous side because these could be bad people for all she knew. These people could delay her journey and they could make it impossible for Tally to make it to the Smoke and impossible for her to become pretty. "Look for the fire-bug eyes" said the book when Tally was reciting Shay's letter. When she finally but the pieces together and figured out that the rangers/firemen were the Fire-bug eyes that Shay had been talking about in her letter. In the end, the firemen ended up being part of the Journey for one to get to the Smoke. Also, Tally learned a lot about the life outside the city by having conversations with the firemen. This event is not only shows Tally's level of trust, but how that trust affects her adventurous side.

On page 211 a quote from the text says, "The thought of picking up the jack again made her hands throb, but the work made her feel as if she was doing something new and important for a change." This quote shows how the work Tally was doing made her feel a little more adventurous by being able to try something "new and important" as opposed to playing tricks and having machines get her what she wants. I also believe this makes Tally more adventurous just because she didn't complain about going out and exploring the new terrain and she didn't once think about how that would affect her. Tally just wanted to try something new

On page 246, Tally finds out about David's parents and how they were doctors but now they are ugly. This confused Tally very much, but it only made her want to meet them more. This also shows just how adventurous Tally really is because if she weren't adventurous she would have not been willing to go meet some ugly strangers that she really doesn't know much about. Trusting and adventurous are not really all that different traits because if you look at all of the past examples, most of the time, Tally is faced with having to be trusting in others. This side of her conflicts with her adventurous side because one of these times, Tally is going to have to trust someone, and this will cause her or prevent her from being adventurous and opening up that side of herself.

On page 228, we find out that Tally's adventurous side is coming out more and more. Tally thinks that is a good idea to attack the Special and run. She tricks him and knocks him out with a hover board. She then grabs the hover board and makes a run for it, passing all of the captive Somkies in the process. She went through the whole train track system and went barefoot as well. She also risked her own life in order to help the Smokies, because she betrayed them. Tally lets her adventerous side out in this example becuase, if she weren't brave and didn't want to risk anything, she could have just stayed with the Special soldier and accepted her punishment. She could have also just let the Smokies dislike her, since they were going to be brainwashed anyway. But Tally did not to any of these things. And instead, she decided to go on a high speed chase into the mountains.

On page 371, Tally decides to jump off of a cliff. This is because she wants to save her friends from being brainwashed and she doesn't want to give up on them. In the book, there are paragraphs about how Tally falls through the air, and how she feels as if she's were like a bird and she were able to go anywhere, and do whatever she wants. She wanted to go on as many adventures as possible.I believe that this makes her adventurous and it makes her seem more likely to be brave in situations were she needs to be.

In conclusion, Tally Changes from being the type of person who is non-adventurous to the type of person who is willing to go on an adventure, in order to do the right thing. These multiple sides of Tally made a positive change, she does what she needs to for the greater good. Doing things for the greater good conflict with the people who want power, and don't want to be defied against. Tally had an adventurous side all along, but she just needed people like Shay and David to bring it out of her.
