Group Members: Jennifer, Sarai, & Juana

We chose to focus on CSUSM and how it has changed over time. CSUSM actually was a chicken farm and later when the land was bought it was converted into our university. The farm was known as the Prohoroff Poultry Farm and it spanned more than 500 acres.
Back then the majority of the population consisted of primarily chickens, where as now the population now mainly consists of students attending the university. The university also now gives a reason for people to come to the city of San Marcos. This is also a reason as to why the community continues to work the university in a number of ways such as continuing to help further the development of this growing university.

Members: Erick, Belen, Luis

A high school, which later became San Diego High School, was built and several gardens were created by various private groups. Then in 1892, local horticulturist and botanist Kate Sessions leased 36 acres for a nursery. In exchange for using the land, she agreed that the nursery would be open to the public and that she would donate hundreds of trees and plants to the city every year for its beautification. Sessions, who would become known as "the mother of Balboa Park," is credited with bringing in many of the different varieties of native and exotic plants to the park, and many of her original trees are alive and visible today. The land which Balboa Park is on today was once just natural landscape. In 1892, Kate Sessions and other San Diego leaders began developing the land and made a commitment to planting 100 trees per year. The growth of Balboa Park, San Diego has united many many cultures and traditions through the development of museums.

Group Members: Carmen, Julissa, Melissa, Grecia

We chose to focus on Disneyland and its development. The $17 million theme park was built on 160 acres of former orange groves in Anaheim, California, and soon brought in staggering profits. Land was bought in the farming community of Anaheim, about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and construction began in 1954. In the summer of 1955, special invitations were sent out for the opening of Disneyland on July 17. Today, Disneyland hosts a big population of visitors. More than 18 million visitors a year, who spend close to $3 billion.

1. The park used to have this wheelbarrow slide, along with a few other visual attractions that all of the locals loved to make use of. Over time, they have removed this one and the sombrero due to safety precautions. Many people got hurt going down this slide as it was not regulated in any way.
2. We are not sure if it was there for a hundred years, probably a lot less than that, but at least a good 2 decades.
3. Throughout this time Escondido has become much more populated, and has grown. This is still a park today and is in great condition, but features such as this one have been taken down.

Poway was a farming village where its main crops were fruits, vegetables, and nuts. But as the city grew and attracted new citizens in the middle of the 20th century, its culture and identity changed. The growth of the aerospace sector in the region, which brought high-tech jobs and a more varied populace, was one notable change. Poway was transformed from a small farming into a more suburban neighborhood as a result of this transition, which also brought about an increase in home complexes.

The impact of the region is that Fallbrook is now known as the capital of Avocados. Many of these avocado are sent out to other states. Fallbrook agriculture has developed more and more over the years creating a variety of different crops that bring a variety of fruits .
The Fallbrook population changed over time due to the growth of the city. The city began growing and many buildings were being built. In 1970 the city had less than 10 thousand people and in 2000 there was roughly 30 thousand. As we can see population has grown and many homes are being built.
There are many new buildings in Fallbrook. Over the course of one hundred years, there has been an increase in companies and the land has been filled with more streets. One fun fact is that Fallbrook has a Ficus tree that was 100 years-old in 2017. It has a history to the beginnings of the town of Fallbrook on Ammunition Rd.
