As part of your in-class writing assignment, I want you to create your own personal "trading card" for your peers. To the left is an example I have created about myself. Include anything you want to reveal about yourself, including your hometown, your year and major, any talents you have, a favorite quote. Add a photo and list any interests.

Next, I want you to describe yourself as a writer. What is your writing process? Do you enjoy writing, or do you see it as a challenge? Don't forget that writing is not limited to academic papers. What kind of avenues (blogging, facebook posts, etc) do you enjoy best? Since this course is focused on writing within the academic discipline, what do you hope to get out of this class? What are your strengths and weaknesses in regards to composition?

Express yourself, but since the wall is public to our class, don't list anything you don't wish to share. Double-click anywhere on the wall to get started.

Your Instructor, ENG 101 (021)

Hometown: Hickory, NC

Year & Major: MA, Linguistics

Special Power: I can listen to a song for 3 seconds and know the name and artist.

Favorite Quote: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"

On Writing: I've always enjoyed composition and journaling when I was younger. In high school, I would always write last minute papers and would never revise them. I found out quickly in undergrad that this was not the best strategy. Now that I am writing more technical and scientific pieces, I am still struggling to be cohesive, yet concise. I enjoy metaphors, flowing descriptive imagery, and attempts at humor. I find that I write best in pieces--late into the night, with coffee and headphones in.

Hometown: Wake Forest, NC

Year & Major: Freshman, Business Administration

Special Power: I love to paint.

Favorite Quote: "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." -Mae West

On Writing: Writing is not normally my best subject in school but I normally don't mind to do it. I always seem to do my best writing late at night. I believe this is because there are less distractions at that time so I'm forced to sit down and write. My least favorite part of writing essays is normally the introduction because I find it hard to introduce the topics.

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Year & Major: Freshman, First Year College

On Writing: I find myself more interested in what is being written more than the actual process of writing. Although, I do see the necessity in being able to express the content of what you are trying to say in a clear and effective manner. My experiences with writing in high school have largely been writing on topics not chosen of my own interest so I feel that this alienating aspect has, to some extent, negatively influenced my perspective on writing.
