Mirabell Chua Pue Meen
A168215
12 August 2022

YES. Objectives of the project were fulfilled. I actively participated in the activities, I supported the organization's SDG and my communication skills & leadership improved.

I liked that I was given the chance to join the team in spreading awareness. I also enjoyed interacting with the participants that was so supportive.

In coordinating for the project with the representative from the village is quit challenging. As we only communicate through phone calls & WhatsApp. It's hard to confirm anything from their sides & we just have to be prepared with any scenario we will face.

What really worked? Working with the team from MRCS KK was amazing. They are opened in a lot of things. When everyone has different opinions, instead of choosing they try to incorporate everyone's idea into 1. Also, youth are empowered within them. Hence, everyone is included.

The improvement that this project need are that more manpower & funding as the project is execute.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes, I have successfully fulfilled all the objectives of this project.

3. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
In my opinion, I really enjoyed where I was able to regularly meet new people while doing the volunteering work. Activities such as cleaning with the temple community and teaching the school children were fun to do together and I even made new friends with them, which I feel grateful for because as a shy person, I always find it difficult to connect with people. This has increased my social skills.

4. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
I found it challenging and took quite a lot of time to learn the kolam designs from the elderly women. This was my first exposure to this activity and I had to practice multiple times drawing it as well as watched YouTube videos before I was able to draw one in the temple.

5. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
Personally, cooking has turned out well and I feel proud of myself for being able to cook for a large amount of people. I believe it was one of the activities that has really worked because I am now able to cook for my family and I plan to cook once again at the temple after the project has finished.

6. What can be improved in this project?
Time management. This is because I feel overworked, and I think I would need more time to do the cleaning duties. Apart from that, it was a bit difficult for me to do some activities because not many tools for pruning were at the temple. Therefore, I had to purchase these equipment by myself.

What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

The thing that I liked about the project was the strong bond and beautiful relationship that we got with our supervisor and our admin, Miss Maya and Kak E. Besides that, I enjoyed all the good memories that I had with my team members and other volunteers at KSK. Also, all the new friendships that have been made with the other volunteer from other universities make me so happy. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The most challenging part of this project is the interaction with the KSK’s clients. This is because most of them are Chinese elderly and sometimes I did not really understand what they were saying to me as they could not speak Malay and English fluently. Besides, there was one time I almost got scolded by one of client regarding on how I was distributing the food. I was a bit sad at that time as that was the first time I met the client and I did not know how he prefer me to distribute his food. But this making me become more careful and appreciates more the task that I did throughout this project.

4. What has really worked? I really appreciate that I was given the chance to join KSK team in helping homeless people and spread kindness. I really love my teammates and all KSK staff, they are so nice and welcoming us. I learned a lot of things through this elective posting.

4. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
For me, it is very crucial to have good communication skills and cooperation skills. I found it challenging and took some times for me to gain confidence to communicate well with new people that I met. Also, throughout this posting there were certain volunteer that do not cooperate well with us, they want to finish the task faster which causes them to work carelessly but most of the times, other volunteer were nice and helpful.

5. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
For me, working with KSK team was amazing and impactful. The strong bonding that were established was memorable and pleasant. Also, as a leader in my team, I am very grateful to have good team members that cooperate well and always support each other. At the end of our posting, our supervisor (Ms Maya) and the admin (Ms Erzarith) praise us and give constructive comment to us. They said we were fast learner and work together effectively. They also suggested us to join them in the future and continue to help the community wherever we are.

6. What can be improved in this project?
Personally, I think transportation that can be improved. This is because if we have our own transportation we can do more activities such as street distribution that usually involve us to go one place to another place such as Pudu, Petaling Street, Brickfields and other places to distribute the food and personal necessities to our clients. This activity usually schedule on Saturday night and programmes such as food bank programme.

PROJECT ‘WHAT HAPPENS AFTER?’ – WEEK 4

Loh Ying Shuen A174177

14 August 2022

Were The Objectives Of The Project Fulfilled?

Definitely a YES. The first objective was to gain exposure towards hands-on care and nursing techniques. I am now familiar and able to perform with bathing, sponging, wound dressing techniques and many more nursing techniques. The second objective was to learn proper approach to ADL dependent patients. It is achieved with daily tasks of feeding, sponging, changing diapers, positioning of the patients. The last objective was to understand the importance of a proper and suitable nursing plan and care. This is achieved by observing and carrying out every tailor-made care given to the patients at the nursing home.

What Have You Enjoyed Or Liked The Most About The Project?

I enjoyed every part of the project, it consisted of application of clinical techniques and basic human interactions. However, if I must choose, I would still say the interaction between the old folks and patients there was very interesting. Although sometimes their requests may be out of hand or completely irrational, but you still need to entertain them or sometimes even “lie” to them. It is up to our own on how you want to communicate or ‘play’ with the patients there. Sometimes, old people are just children in disguise, both cute and devious at the same time.

What Have You Found Challenging About This Project? (Any Part Of The Project You Found Hard To Do)

The challenging part of the project was actually having to balance out the situation between the patient, the patient’s family members and caretakers. Sometimes, it is lacking too much of understanding between those in and not in the medical fields. The family member's confidence and support towards the caregiver team stands a way more important role than I expected. There is only so much we as caregiver can do without the family member’s support. However, we still need to play our role by explaining and wanting them to understand the situation from our side. For me, this is the most challenging part of the project, having to deal and balance out the complicated dynamics.

What Has Really Worked? (Any Part In The Project That You Thought Worked Well)

I think I have been able to learn as much I can from the project. Being understaffed at the nursing home made me even more exposed to the caregiving plans. I needed to handle the patients independently starting the 2nd week of the project. Although it was frightening at first, but it made me reach my full potential. So I think the nursing home being understaffed was kind of benefiting for me.

What Can Be Improved In This Project?

I think the project could have been more successful if I could have a partner/ friend alongside me. Although I have no problem in making friends at the nursing home, and I really did made some new friends there. But it would be even more enjoyable if I could have a friend that is my age since all the nurses there are all in their thirties to fifties. So I think I would be more than happy to have someone my age to experience this project with me.

The special connection that I have made with new people and the staff of KSK is what I cherish the most. I am quite an introvert and doing this volunteering, has helped me to break out of my shell. Getting to see the clients smile was also something that made me feel wholesome and made me appreciate everything that I have.

4) What have you found challenging about this project? (Any part of the project you found hard to do)

I think the challenging part of this project is the communication between the clients as well as the other volunteers. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish what the clients said but I always tried my best to understand them and give their meal kindly with a smile. As for communicating with the other volunteers, it was a challenge to understand their way of working but after a while, we would find a common ground. Hence, we managed to get the job done efficiently.

5) What has really worked? (Any part in the project that you thought worked well)

The strong teamwork that has been embedded within my group was what helped me to get through this whole volunteering. Other than that, the excellent relationship with our supervisor makes the work easier as I could ask her anything without feeling shy. As I got better with my communication skills, I managed to teach the new volunteers what to do during the preparation for the food distribution.

6) What can be improved in this project?

I think it can be improved in terms of transportation as it will help expand the choices of volunteering activities that I can do. For example, we could join in with street distribution at night and collect food for the food bank.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
I actually do refer to other online sources and notes for reference and i really liked it when i am able to correlate them with what i have learnt in this course. I managed to get a better understanding on a certain topic and makes them easier to memorize.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

Learning how to write kanji (most of them) are difficult. In my opinion, recognising and writing kanji are both entirely different skill. A person is able to recognise kanji characters if he/she know how to write them but it might not work if it’s another way round.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
Making notes and completing quizzes are really helpful to grasp the concept and get a better vision of the things that i learnt. Spaced repetition technique is also a good way to memorise new vocabulary and other difficult kanji characters.

5. What can be improved in this project?

In my opinion, the course provider should prepare more quizzes and notes for the students.

1.Your name,matric number,date
Yakshiny a/p Selva,A175038,8-14/8/2022

2.Were the objectives of project fulfilled?
Yes,I overall covered all the 3 objectives that I set in the proposal.

3.What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
The thing that I enjoyed the most in the project is that I am able to witness the needy students in the community who enjoys the facilities and programmes in Hope Worldwide. For example, some of them were there to use the printing facility (IT Resource centre). Some of them are involved in Robotics Programme which is so helpful to those students who are interested in technology and programming. The program is free unlike if outside classes,it cost more than hundreds which cause these kids could not enjoy the programme.

4.What have you found challenging about this project?
I found it challenging to find participants for Mental Health Wellness Programme.I feel the community here do not actually focus or concern on Mental Health. Most of the students and their parents who I called personally to invite them to the Programme said that they are not interested. I feel that if their surroundings like their parents especially prioritize the mental health of children, they would be sending their children to this programme. Some had a lot of other priorities like work, tuition and etc which is hard for them to be involved in this programme. This is understandable since weekends are the time for extra classes for the students.

5. What has really worked?
One thing that has really worked for me is the Vegetable Tower Compost. Many of the towers have been donated to the community here. Many of them had planted the vegetables and made the compost by themselves. This somehow reduce household waste.

6.What can be improved in this project?
The duration of the project. The timing of this elective project somehow seems not right for me since most of the programmes that we have planned only getting executed in the upcoming month. Therefore I am sad that I will only be in the planning part of the project and not the execution.

Ahmad Nabil Sufi Bin Che Musa
15/8/2022
1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes, i am pleased to tell that i enjoyed my EP so much that i wish to to do it again when i have the time in the future. It also fulfilled my objective of my EP and i manage to improve my communication skills.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
i enjoyed cooking at the restaurant the most. i get to learn multiple recipes which is proven to be useful in the future. think about it, when you are able to cook by yourself, you can be independent. you do not need to buy outside food anymore. you can save a lot of money from that.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The most challenging part of the job was when i have to finish the order within a short time as some of the customers are pleased by waiting. i had to keep up with the pace where loads of orders came in and i have to prioritize which orders came first. not to mention when we mad the wrong food and customers complained about it. it will take a longer time to fix the mistake.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
so far, what has really worked for me was understanding the common food ordered by the customers. i can understand them correctly whenever i took orders from them. therefore, least mistakes i made from that part. thanks to my fast learning skills alhamdulillah. i was able to adapat with the working process within a week.

5. What can be improved in this project?
in my opinion, things that can be improved from this project would be ordering system via qr code. using qr code to display menu will definitely makes the job easy for customers to choose since the paper based menu is not available to all customers. And display qr code for online banking payment is definitely be helpful in this case as well.
